Guantanamo Bay questions....
With the President going to close the prison camp at Guantanamo, where will the prisoners be sent ? If they come to this country will they be allowed bail ? This group will include some who were part of the plot on 9/11 and others....read a recent report that over 60% of those released were back in terrorism activities.
Have done some research but dont see any plans for them when it closes !!!! Anbody know ???? |

If not charged I guess they are just sent in the wind to somewhere but if charged and brought here......do they get bail....will they be roaming the streets in Johnstown Pa (Murtha's home area) ? Just curious because it is simple to just close the prison but what then !! |

Several of the detainees home country have ...
already advised US officials they are not welcome back and do not want them. Response from some of the military prisons here in the USA have already said....no thank you.
Next they begin to look at maximum security prisons...the issue for them will be which ones...which states...some have already said no not here. The closing of Gitmo is obviously not a problem....just listen to all the cheers!!! The real problem now will be the disposition process and then where to put them. Does everybody really believe the people who decided to create Gitmo in the first place didn't know what they were doing? Does anybody think they are not more safe because of Gitmo? Perfect? No of course not, what is? If the gun was at your head and the cause was one of the guys being detained your views would be different. If your family was tied up with bomb vests and one of these guys knew how to shut it off I wonder what your view would be under such a real test. There is no doubt about my position...like Jack Bauer says on 24....do what ever it takes!!!!!! Those most distant, the special interest groups, the permissive pacifists with no involvement, exposure or risk have driven this to it finally becoming a front burner issue. How about if they were going to be detained in Lake, Marion or Sumter County? Would that be OK??? The bill is an easy knee jerk response to maintain a campaign promise....that if listed in priority would not even make the first page of the list....but it is a campagn promise fulfilled...eh? BTK |

They could come here...
Many people in this area do not know this, but we have the largest Federal Prison complex in the country in Sumterville. I belive that there are 5 seperate prisons in the complex and two of them are Maximum security, so the Gitmo boys may be closer than you think.

In my opinion, this was the political correct thing to do instead of the correct thing to do, but time will surely tell ! |

Hmmm... Let's examine this:
1. In Rep. Pelosi's district there's the Presidio complex, and even Alcatraz - could house a few there. 2. In Rep. Frank's district, there's a couple of left-leaning universities where a few could be put to work as adjunct professors. 3. In Illinois, I'm sure the former junior senator knows a couple of locations, especially in the Northern part of the state, which would be appropriate for some more. All kidding aside, there is no good solution to this. Once they arrive in the US - if they indeed come here - the legal circus begins. If they are declared as "prisoners of war" they can be held until the war ends. If they don't get POW status, the legal challenges to their custody will be almost instantaneous. |
