You've got to be kidding.

I could never celebrate the birth of the "Mother" of the abortion mill known as Planned Parenthood.

I find abhorrent her embrace of Eugenics, with "selective mating" and the sterilization of the mentally ill and mentally impaired.

I object to her espousal of "Free Love."

I disapprove of her association with anarchists, and membership in the Socialist Party.

Nope. Not an occasion for celebration.

I try to take these people in their historical context. Mark Twain was a great writer IMHO but some of his work seems a bit racist as most of the people living during his time were quite racist.

About Sanger--

Still Sanger held some views that were common at the time, but now seem abhorrent, including support of sterilization for the mentally ill and mentally impaired. Despite her controversial comments, Sanger focused her work on one basic principle: "Every child should be a wanted child."

I'm surprised that you have fallen into the mistaken belief that Twain was racist.

His greatest work, Huckleberry Finn, was about the evolution of Huckleberry's casual racism into a genuine affection for, and appreciation of the humanity of the slave, Jim.

In my favorite, The Innocents Abroad, Twain pokes fun at both his fellow travelers and the people in each country he visited. But, the assumptions about each group of people he talks about are based upon the characteristics of different groups as understood in that era. His humor is gentle, not vicious.
