I believe that the American Dream is the Right to Life, Liberty and the pursute of Happiness. I was always taught that meant that you could work and hard, enjoy the fruits of your own labor, and pretty much be master of your own destiny. The government didn't dumb down the loan officer that granted me a loan to buy a home. No banker in their right mind gives out a loan to someone who cannot pay it back...duh. BTW, I'm starting to wonder what is being inhaled in Virginia this afternoon. |

I guess you can't always judge a book by it's cover

Lets open a hunting season on the unemployed, grind up their bodies for dog food. That would cut down on the evil ones that don't pay into the TAX pool.

We've met people many times who told us that when they got pre-qualified to buy a home, they were told by lenders that they could afford a house tens and hundreds of thousands more than they KNEW they could afford. They had the sense and morals to not sign onto so much mortgage debt as the lenders were luring them into. The old adage, "Buyer beware" still applies, in any lender/borrower transaction! |

That's right, the benevolent hand of the government got the better of a FEW people who aren't smart enough to know better...Kinda like most of the democratic social programs that have people suckered in.
How is much different from this-Uncle Sam takes my money to invest for my retirement, because it's soooo nice of the government to look out for little ole me who doesn't have sense to look out for myself. OH, that's right, that's not working out so well either... |

Gosh after reading this thread and all I can say is many of you seem a bit frisky. It would seem more productive to direct that energy, intellect and aggression toward the real source of the problem,,,,President and Congress

As the original poster on this thread it has occurred to me that this thread has developed just like social security has and as most government programs have.
It started out as one thing and in just a few days it is a totally different thing all together. It has been amusing! I plan on collecting ss if it is there in about 5 years and I will not consider myself a socialist. I however will feel like I have been ripped off because I could have invested that money much better. Now what was this thread about?? I forgot! |

Thanks for being so gracious about us having pirated your thread...we did have alot of fun!

Also my bonds aren't doing that bad! I would have invested in real estate more. I don't know how it is where you live but it was a good deal here and never really did get bad like what we here in the media. Or I guess I could give it all to a congressman and hope he takes care of it over the years!! I wonder how that would work out, Oh I guess I will find out soon. |

I don't think real estate is over. There will always be a need for housing and businesses expand. If they don't then all of this does not matter anyway. I don't plan for it all to go to hell, I plan on it getting better and it will.
I hope the biggest leap forward will be in 2012 with a new leader or should I say A LEADER. |

In the meantime, land is one thing that isn't being made any more, so it will always bounce back. |
