This country was built on diversity. The Irish were spat upon when they immigrated. The Chinese saw signs in shop windows that said "No dogs or Chinese allowed". The German immigrants...how do you think they were treated in World War I? And we all know Japanese immigrants were rounded up in US concentration camps during World War II. Now all those things are looked upon as mistakes, at best, and disgust from many.
For too long, ignorant preachers have taught their uneducated flocks that this country was built on the Judeo-Christian model. It wasn't. The settlers who built this country were running away from Christian brutality and wars in Europe, where Christians were burning other Christians at the stake, and, yes, beheading them. The founders of this country wanted none of that, so they put a Wall of Separation between church and state into the Constitution. (If you don't believe me, look up the Supreme Court decision of Everson vs. Board.) Our Constitution does not contain the words "God" or "Christianity".
The older white conservatives who cling to the idea that life was just wonderful in the 1950s and want to return, ignore that in the lack of 24/7 media coverage, a lot of what is going on now was also going on then, you just didn't hear about it. Conservative media today wants their people to be afraid of everything-Mexicans, Muslims, liberals, Democrats, immigrants, and they will lie and exaggerate to keep that fear alive. Fox News blasts every black crime, but rarely do they grudgingly admit that a white might have committed an atrocity. Nevertheless if you really dig into facts, most crimes and most terrorist acts in this country have been committed by white males. We shoot 93 other Americans every single day.
The post which started this thread is full of such lies and propaganda, which no doubt was promoted by Limbaugh, Jones, Savage, Fox, or some other outlet which thanks to the freedom guaranteed by our Constitution, can spew nonsense. The pity is that so many willing listeners buy into that crap.

When i joined the U s navy i was sent to Oceania, Virginia Beach Virginia. when I want off base some of the residents there had signs on their lawn that read "No Dogs and Sailors allowed"

the left wants to destroy the names of people like Washington, Jefferson, Lee Franklin because they were slave owners. Blacks still protest in the streets because of slavery.

However since the beginning of time slavery has been a fact. Even in Africa, Africans made slaves of other Africans.

methinks this claim of racism today is a great "gig" to use as leverage to make money, gain political advantage, etc.

Thinking of racism as a "gig" certainly saves you having to deal with it as a reality.

It IS a reality however, and you can pretend it does not exist, but the hate filled posts on this forum are evidence that, even in The Villages, we are surrounded with folks who feel superior simply because of their skin color..

In 1958, as part of my naval responsibilities I was in Norfolk. Saw the signs referenced, but remember mostly that my black service men could not go pretty much anywhere because of their skin color.

Today, you obviously feel both problems are resolved, but the "gig" as you call it is just more sophisticated.

Such ignorance and superior feelings now have the bully pulpit and you people can rally around your hate, refuse to listen, and dwell on dividing, rather than actually being patriotic and revoking this stuff, embracing the problems and finding solutions.

Nobody likes the NFL players doing what they are doing, but you stupid white folks refuse to understand what it means, how to even begin to understand that black skinned people died for that flag and have the same rights as you, as superior as you might feel.

The "gig" of those "nice folks" marching for and supporting Nazi ideals obviously has your attention.
