Default Just in case...

that Republicans are reading their press clippings and looking at this election as a coronation much like the Obama team looked at November 2008, the get out the vote push from Dems on certain groups is beginning...

Obamas Push for African American Turnout

In the latest sign that the Democratic Party is concentrating on its base during the final push before Election Day, the Democratic National Committee announced today a radio ad buy on African American stations that focuses on voter turnout.

According to a DNC release, the spot is part of an advertising effort worth $3 million in the African American community."

BY JESSE JACKSON

'In 2008, we changed the guard," says the Rev. Joseph Lowery in a radio ad for the Democratic National Committee. "This year we must guard the change."

There's no question that if mobilized, the base of the Democratic Party -- blacks, Latinos, single women, the young who constituted more than half of the electorate in 2010 -- could help save many Democratic seats and Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.

While the media have been fixated on the Tea Party, a case can be made that African Americans hold the keys to the 2010 elections. A determined black vote can be the margin of victory in critical states and districts. Recent studies bear this out.

The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, a premier African-American research institute, just published an opinion poll suggesting that African-American interest in this election may be sufficient to close the traditional gap between white and black turnout in off-year elections.

I point this out because according to the last stats I saw, this administration has total support of about 96% of black voters.

These elections are NOT a slam dunk !

Point is, despite the media giving up all these seats to Republicans, I do not see it happening quite that way.

First of all, the "tea party" movement which is the same as the "progressive" movement in that it is not a party, simply a general slate of beliefs has not established much in the way of actual plans that has to be done.

Secondly, the main reason, despite the announcements of mandates, that Obama is in the WH is that so many voters did not come out....we will see what kind of turnout occurs in a couple weeks.

Gotta say...I am not a "tea bag" guy although I certainly espouse much of what they say and believe...this election, more than anytime before, for me is about someway reigning in this WH and this congressional leadership. They have done this country such an injustice in the last 20 months or so. I do not even blame all the congress folks in Washington...I really think that they have literally been bullied by the WH and the leadership.

I think you are correct Bucco. This isn't a slam-dunk election for Republicans. The November elections will be a critical test for Obama and he is doing everything in his power to make sure he passes. The current administration and Congress, on both sides of the aisle, absolutely need to be sent a message by the voters. No more business as usual.

Like you, I connect with many of the things that people who associate themselves with "The Tea Party" say; smaller government, less spending, more local control, liberty and freedom given by the rule of law established by the people and the US Constitution.

I am growing worried that the voters will once again be apathetic. We need to wake up, study and educate ourselves and not see what is happening to this country.

Default I have heard many friends and family say they intend to NOT VOTE

because of all the trash-negative campaigning.

That in my opinion is not a reason to not vote. It is in fact a cop out. I work as hard as I can to encourage evrybody to vote whether they like the environment surrounding the event or not.

I especially enjoy reminding those who complain about Obama, who did not vote, anb emphasize that Obama is in the WH for that very reason. The cop out in 2008 was, some either voted for Obama because they did not like McCain or they did not vote because they did not like McCain.

Encourage everybody to get out and vote....there is no such thing as a reason not to do so....none.

Bill: I couldn't agree more. Just because the ads are bad, it doesn't give justification to abdicating one's responsibility to vote. Don't like any of the candidates? Write YOURSELF in. If nothing else, you make a statement on your opinion of the major candidates.

But the angry have been deceived and exploited by posers who belong to the same class of 'elites' and 'insiders' that the Tea Party movement supposedly deplores. Americans who want to stick it to the man are instead sending money to the man."

My feeling is that if you don't vote you don't have a right to complain. I can't go four years without complaining, even if my candidate wins, so I always vote.
