Default Keep an eye on this....

As our State Department is slashed.

"Officials are expressing concern over a series of departures of high-ranking diplomats at the State Department, with one former official warning that "having so many vacancies in essential places is a disaster waiting to happen."

“These people either do not believe the U.S. should be a world leader, or they’re utterly incompetent,” Dana Shell Smith told The New York Times. Smith was the ambassador to Qatar until she resigned in June.

Aides for Tillerson have also reportedly depleted much of the department's diversity by firing most of the department's leading African-American and Latino diplomats.

State Department wracked by departures under Trump: report | TheHill

This may be good from a budget standpoint but my experience is that these quiet "in the background" State Department employees serve a vital purpose.

We do not need surprises and remember we do not even have an ambassador to South Korea or Japan. These are the folks whose job it is to keep us informed.

"Democrats and some Republicans also recently protested President Trump's budget request that asked to slash the State Department's budget to $37.6 billion."

Good to see some posts getting back to politics.

An ex or disgruntled or dis satisfied employee may be considered a source offering an opinion.

However there may be good reason for many of the jobs being eliminated or not filled.

We all know the government suffers from bloat and spend....actions taken to remedy the problems are never viewed as positive by those affected or part of the problem.

You "could" be right, but having no ambassadors and gutting the State Department with lightning speed....is worthy of discussion.

Both parties are concerned about this....they are not protecting jobs, but using the State Department to reduce the already great increase in our deficit does not seem correct.

This is an opinion piece for sure, but the pasted portion pretty much captures my concern. Offer it for your consideration...

"The Trump administration’s approach to governance is that of a bratty toddler confronting a neat stack of blocks: Knock it down and scatter the pieces. It may take years to rebuild what President Trump and his minions are destroying.

This is not the systematic move toward small government that conservatives have long sought. It’s a lurch toward bad government, inadequate government, incompetent government. In some cases, it’s driven by spite; in others, by sheer cluelessness. Ultimately, we will all pay a price for Trump’s nihilism."

We will all pay a price for Trump’s nihilism - The Washington Post

And this from a month ago...

Andrew Sullivan: Trump’s Mindless Nihilism

Again, I favor small government, but this speed seems reckless to me.
