My dad, a WWII combat vet, a survivor of the Bataan death march, was in the hospital terminally ill and I needed to buy a car. All the Japanese car companies were running July 4th specials, which I found ironic. The American car companies were closed for the July 4th holiday. I waited and bought a Chevy Lumina. A great car by the way. Made in America?
The sticker on the door showed it was made in Canada.

My most recent car is a Chevy Malibu. That is made in the US. Look it up and you will discover it is 60% made in the US so they can claim it is made in the US.

For far to many Americans that seem to need to live here and yet do anything they can to sabotage the US, the Japanese companies are as dishonest-made in the US????
They work the tax system. You need to make a profit to stay in business but nothing says where you will make that profit. They can make the engine in Japan and load the profit into the oparts made in Japan and so pay the tax in Japan. American states give them tax breaks so they can better compete with our domestic car companies.

Interesting history-there was a time when GM produced 80% of the cars in the world. Today, the taxpayer bailed out GM and Obama GAVE Chrysler to Fiat a company that itself was on the verge of bankruptcy

We seem to be so enamored with celebrity (see last two elections) and so much less to character and leadership in ALL (not just presidential) elections.

I recal even a number of years ago back North sitting with a candidate for office, and as he was editing a speech, he noted and I am para phrasing him....it's a shame I have to eliminate reference to issues, and spend so much time on them liking me...

Promises are not required to win anymore. This forum is a great example....Syria, immigration POLICY, Iran POLICY, tax reform, etc etc are not important. Your image, not your leadership is what counts.

A young very new senator wins.....a person who has done nothing for the country both get elected because of what they say and how they say it..

Try engaging in a conversation on this forum about policy and issues. Nobody holds our elected officials accountable..just win.
Re: spending so much time being liked
Were that not so, perhaps, Ross Perot would have been president. Perhaps, Bill Clinton would not have been president.

Re: a young new senator wins-a person who has done nothing for the country. I did not vote for Obama but he is a very skilled politician. Obama successfully buried his past. Was allowed to hide the people he associated with.
Oh and if you questioned anything about him out came the racist card. While I did not vote for Obama, I would have been proud to find I was wrong. FEW PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO ADMIT THEY ARE WRONG.

SADLY, I DO NOT SEE ANY PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR OTHERS THAN TRUMP ADMITTING THAT HE HAS ANY GOOD POINTS. PERHAPS, WHAT IS WRONG IS NOT THE CANDIDATES BUT OUR PEOPLE.

A further point, realize YOU do not know who or what you are electing. You vote for a THEATRICAL PRESENTATION.

It is a miracle that to date we have not had a Hitler, a Mussolini, a Hirohito rise to power. That is due to the miracle that established this nation. Historically, such people rise to power in times of stress. That is true of our nation as well. In my view the closest we have come is LINCOLN, FDR AND OBAMA. Think about it. We talk about the LINCOLN years and the post LINCOLN years, the FDR years and the post FDR years, we will in the future talk about the OBAMA years and the post OBAMA years. I for one HOPE like the first two, history will see the Obama years as a good thing. RIGHT NOW, BASED ON WHAT I SEE, BASED ON THESE POSTS AND SIMILAR ONES ELSEWHERE-I HOPE HISTORY WILL PROVE ME WRONG.

I agree with most of what you say, Except for the "pass" you seem to give Trump.

I suggest you read a bit more about him, his past, and his lack of morals and character. Read what his ghost writer, and biographers tell you.

I suggest you are correct in how we vote.

2016, and you will disagree was a confluence of things. The primary really grabbed my attention, what with the hate and mean spirited things we tolerated. With the candidacy of Clinton, and Trump, I knew we were doomed.

The lack of confidence in government, the lack of character in the two candidates made most votes AGAINST something or someone. Nor FOR anything.

My analysis is we, the voters are the same mistake every "off election" and either don't vote or vote the incumbent. That, to me is a worry.

We have no leaders, and some for the reasons you point out. I felt there were leaders available to be voted for in the primary, but being shallow in our thinking, we missed the chance because the lobbying has gotten worse, less transparent and we took a step back. The Dems, whether Trump was around or not, ceded this candidacy to Clinton, which NOT IN HINSIGHT BUT FORESIGHT was a huge mistake for which they payed.

PS,...To your comment on Trump...there is a ton wrong with Trump....literally a ton. What good points are there to make ? He has never ever in his life done one thing for his country, but he was good at developing and selling. That does not discount him from being a good President, but thus far it has been a disaster, and frankly MOST of his problems are of his own making. My fear is, as of now, he is destroying the Republican party

Sadly, other than in sci-fi novels we do not have a chance to see what would have happened had we gone down a different path.

I don't think Obama changed the law he simply was allowed to ignore it and it was not just with the GM bonds. Obama GAVE Chrysler to Fiat FOR FREE. Fiat was not a solvent company. Fiat itself was on the verge of bankruptcy. The key asset of Chrysler was JEEP and Fiat, thanks to the great deal maker is going to screw the Jeep brand. They will be producing IN ITALY an all wheel drive car that if you peel back the skin is a FIAT with a jeep look and logo on it.

Obama also, put the full faith and credit of the US on the worthless bonds of Puerto Ricco.

WE, INCLUDING YOU, SURVIVED OBAMA. THIS PAST PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION WAS A CHOICE BY THE VOTERS FOR CAPITALISM THAT BUILT THIS NATION OVER SOCIALISM-THAT DESTROYED AMONG OTHER NATIONS GREECE. LIKE THE US GREAT BRITTAN MADE THE SAME CHOICE.

Personally, I did not have GM bonds. Had I only thought our president was going to, again ILLEGALLY, Obamerize Puerto Riccan bonds they were TRASH and on the open market they were paying 12% and could not be sold.

THE US AND THE WORLD HAS SURVIVED OBAMA.
