He balanced the budget. He did not raise taxes. He did a god job.

He would say YES to more tax cuts for millionaires (him) and billionaires. He wants to give millionaires and billionaires another $150,000 a year in tax cuts while raising taxes on everyone else.

Richard Grenell, Mitt Romney's openly gay security advisor, stepped down amid criticism from anti-gay conservatives. This will really help Romney with the LGBT vote. Hopefully the candidate will explain soon.

Anybody out there know why Ma was 47th in job creation when Mitt Romney was governor? Any lurkers who might have lived in MA while he was in office?

If you look at the Wikepidia article cited by Taltarzac725, you will discover the following - "Job growth increased at a 1.3 percent rate during Romney's term, ranking Massachusetts 47th out of 50 states in that statistic during that time, in absolute terms.[18][35]
In relative terms, however, Massachusetts added 51,362 jobs during Romney's tenure, while its population grew by 26,500 residents during that same period.[36][37] Massachusetts therefore added two jobs for every resident gained.
The state's unemployment rate fell during the same period, from 5.6 to 4.7 percent.[35"

How many state governors can you cite with equal employment accomplishments?

Here's an excellent article on how Mitt Romney used fees to close the budget gap as MA governor thereby claiming he never raised taxes. This gives some insight as to how he might govern as president.

So, what is your problem. I lived through it. The fees at the time were very low and in some cases didn't cover the cost of providing the service. It was a good idea. Better to charge those who used the service than tax everybody.

He'll get my vote.

Why is Mitt Romney picking on Jimmy Carter? First he said "even Jimmy Carter would have ordered Bin Laden killed". Jimmy Carter was the first president who served as a naval office on a nuclear submarine.

Where was Mitt Romney during the Viet Nam war? He was living in France trying to convert people to mormanism on his "ministerial deferment". How do you get one of those when you're not trained to be a minister? I'll bet the families of the 66,000 dead service members wish they had gotten a "ministerial deferment".

Chris Matthews says it well.

Excellent post, Janmcn, and excellent points made.

However, none of these wubers will link to anything from Chris Matthews or MSNBC. It is against their mindset to listen to anything except from FOX Noise.

I would think that the wubers on this forum who are Vietnam-era veterans would certainly take exception to their candidate getting deferrments from the draft because of his Mormon missionary work.

I had a couple of good friends in the Army who were Mormons and were draftees. Neither believed in killing, their Bishops supported their viewpoints and both were given C.O. status and were medics.

You might want to read up on some morman history, like this one for example: Mountain Meadows massacre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maybe as an individual choice one might not believe in killing, but that is not LDS beliefs.

Guest 05-04-2012 11:53 AM

Figmo,

I know that Mormons are not considered C.O.'s automatically. It is an individual belief and if their Bishop wrote a letter to the draft board, they could be given C.O. status.

Not to be outdone by President Obama's trip to Afghanistan to visit the troops, the GOP presumptive nominee, Mitt Romney today paid a surprise visit to his money in the Cayman Islands.

When is Mitt Romney going to start traveling around to hold rallies at college stadiums? There's been so much discussion today about how many people actually attended the president's kick-off rallies yesterday. The only way to gage support of each candidate is to compare the numbers with Romney's attendees.

Guest 05-06-2012 04:43 PM

The suggestion keeps being made that we decide this presidential campaign by comparing crowds at rallies here in the beginning of May. While that might be easier I suppose, it should make everyone nervous.

I opt for having discussion of ISSUES...ISSUES only and then go ahead and still have that doggone election in November based on that.

On the other hand...

President Obama demonstrated the power of his office this week, shifting seamlessly in a span of just over 30 hours from commander- in-chief in a dangerous war zone to campaigner-in-chief on the trail in D.C.

Fresh back from Afghanistan, Obama attended two private, $40,000-a-plate fundraisers Wednesday at the exclusive W Hotel, raising at least $2 million for the 2012 campaign, Democratic officials said.

The big money events, coming ahead of Obama’s first public campaign rallies on Saturday, are the latest reminder of how the president is padding his war chest at an unprecedented rate.

Obama has headlined 132 re-election fundraisers for his campaign and the Democratic Party since early last year, according to tracking by ABC News and U.S. Naval Academy political scientist Brendan Doherty.

President George W. Bush attended 86 fundraisers for his re-election campaign, the Republican Party or both groups during his first term. Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush appeared at a total of 70 and 24, respectively.

And as Obama travels the country – or across the street, as was the case last night – taxpayers foot most of the bill, experts say."
