Bucco, this is the same liberal pandering that brought down the "black family" from the core families we mostly knew our friends to have in the 50's and 60's to the fractured single parent homes that 70% of black children are now born into. Confucius had a saying; "The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home". It as applicable today as it was at the time he said this.

The liberals are doing the same thing to Spanish speaking people. They're keeping them in poverty and obscurity by pandering to them.

I think liberal leaders do this purposely to keep an underclass who votes for them thinking they're being done favors. Instead of challenging people to improve and grab that golden ring of success, they keep them in their liberal ghetto.

One of the reasons the Irish assimilated as quickly as they had was because they spoke....you guessed it...English.

Public Schools all over the country are hampered greatly because they are required to deal with dozen up dozen of different languages, not to mention different customs, etc. Add to that the deviations created by minoroity goups who band together as a gang and you can see that teachers are really up against it. Now include the same problems are facing employers and....bingo you have a major burden facing America.

My grandmother showed up in this country from Puerto Rico in January of 1936 and you better believe she speaks english.

Huh? Far from it! My point was that, because English was the dominant language in New York City (where she landed), she learned English.

If I were to go to work in Puerto Rico, you bet your bottom dollar I'd be learning Spanish - just as if I were to go to work in Montreal, I'd be improving my skills in French.

As far as Puerto Rico goes, I just wish they'd go one way or another. Either become a state or become a fully independent country. Holding these 3-way votes where the status quo is also an option solves nothing. Have one more of those votes. If no option gets 50% then, like any runoff election, throw out the last option and trot out the ballot boxes again.

After all, PR gets their own Olympic team, among other things. My opinion is "(Spit) or get off the pot"

English is also the common language on the high seas for commercial shipping....ditto for commercial aviation.

The language of our country is and has been English. And like most countries in the rest of the world, if one wants to participate in the society of those countries one must learn the language.

Only in America does it become an issue and once again the lowering of the bar, lack of enforcement and permissive pacifism all for the sake of protecting a voter block.
