Default Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi's press briefing yesterday was all over Fox and Friends as well as Morning Joe this am. It was pathetic to watch. At one point she misplaced the notes she was making reference to, started stammering and looked like she was going to fall apart in the midst of the briefing. She has now accused the CIA of lying to Congress. She will never be able to climb out of the hole she has dug herself into. She has become a severe liability to the President and it will be very interesting how he begins a damage control program.

Ms. Pelosi is the epitome of the political careerist - over two decades in office, 2 years at a time. She is apparently very popular in her home district, meaning she brings home the bacon and has media control. No matter how this moment regarding her knowledge (or lack thereof) of what happened during a very key committee assignment ends, she's still likely to be re-elected in 2010.

Unless her district wants her out, she will continue to spend more time in DC than CA.

But her role as Speaker could be in danger. I guess she's got a lock on the seat until Jan 2011 unless she resigned (VERY DOUBTFUL), but I would expect some definite competition for her and some of her primary lieutenants at that time. I really don't see the media and/or her fellow Democrats demanding her resignation before then. But it is possible that as she is made to look more and more the fool, that she will lose some of her iron-fisted control of the Democrat caucus.

Unfortunately, we don't. We gave power to Obama, Biden, Reid and Pelosi through our ballots. Their character was apparent to anyone who looked, but character and competence did not matter to the US voter. We got what we asked for.

Default That is exactly what happens when a person does not

know their subject and secondly when they lie a lot. They have no credible base point to go from and to, hence they do not know what to say without canned questions and prepared answers.

The epitome of incompetence and self centered positioning.

She couldn't find her backside with a map.

Yes, maybe someone who had actual executive experience and had demonstrated competence - unlike either Obama or Biden. A person who ran the largest state in the union by total area, total shoreline (more that the lower 48 combined), the greatest diversity of wildlife, etc and did it with a budget surplus. A person who had actually worked for a living rather than being a lifetime politician/community organizer. Sounds like a major step up from Obama/Biden to me.

The problem with the political forum is that when there is a very important issue to discuss we quickly regress into tossing barbs at each other and slip away from the topic of the thread. No matter which side of the political bedpost you hang your robe, if you saw Pelosi in action yesterday you had to feel troubled. The 3rd highest ranking member of our political system essentially has:

a) been caught lying

b) projected blame onto the entire CIA and called them liars.

c) changed her story at least 3 times in a feeble attempt to cover her lies

d) held a press conference, totally unprepared, mixed up her notes and embarrassed herself in front of the world to the degreee that you had to pity her

It doesn't matter where you stand politically.... the entire world is watching this fiasco.... what must they be thinking? That was the purpose of the original post. President Obama now has to decide how to deal with this issue and with The Speaker. I was hoping there would be some discussion on what people thought about how this mess would unfold. Remember, the whole thing started because Pelosi (and others) wanted to boil in oil those responsible for waterboarding and other interrogation techniques that she claimed (wrongly) she did not know were occuring. It is 100% certain by the info presented to date that she knew waterboarding was occurring by Jan 03 at the latest and Sept 02 very likely yet she never raised an iota of protest, challenge or alarm then. Now, she thought she'd make political hay out of this issue in 2009 and it has turned around and bitten her right in the behind.

Palin would have been an improvement over Biden, without a doubt.
