Actually, I am a bit relieved that you are the only conservative here, that actually takes the time to research, provide links and explain how you came to your conclusions.

As a Centrist, I find it is much more work (but infinitely more rewarding) to actually debate a moderate conservative like yourself, instead of constantly reading emotional one/two-liners... with right-wing zealots.

While I don't expect to win over everyone on the 'other' side on an issue, I at least know that there is an appreciation of establishing the reasoning of taking a position...instead of the emotional petulance that we see from almost all of the Trump supporters here. :ohdear:

When I first started posting in this forum, I made the mistake of thinking...that I was dealing mostly with rational adults.

I spent the time and effort to use legitimate and respected sources (acknowledging when something was an 'opinion' and when is was an actual 'fact') thinking that surely in The Villages most were real adults.

I quickly learned however...that isn't the case. :oops:

Just for the heck of it, I did a little research on a couple of the most prolific posters in this forum.

Unbelievably, MDLNB shows 13,356 posts since he joined in 2012 (4 years @8.45 posts per day)...and yet NOT A SINGLE POST (just two started threads, with an original post only)..... outside of the Political Forum. :22yikes:

Add to that the fact that his posts down here do not even make an attempt at actual debate and the very rare links he provides, are primarily from fake news sites...and you have one very lonely and angry individual. :ohdear:

Which, once again, brings out more empathy from me...than anything else.

When you read downright lies about anyone, or a boldface lie on an issue, you let people know and they find their lying and your frustration with it to be funny.

I get angry. I hate liars. Lying is different than disagreeing.

I cannot speak for the poster you reply to, but at times I read these lies, and realize that this person is well aware he/she is lying. They have no respect for truth, or other posters, and you try to envision what kind of person does this. What would make a human being have so little pride in themselves to get giggles from doing this....sometimes for me, that equals "chortle" and sometimes empathy.

It is amazing to me that instead of trying to make someone titter, or whatever reason, they could use this powerful internet work for them and not nvestigate.

Amazing how much more you enjoy politics when you understand the issues and can talk about them.

Sorry, I meant to type chortling. I remember you from the old political forum. I did not post then, and still don't very much now, but I remember you very well because I always admired your posts. They were usually very informative and I remember your enjoyment in engaging with others on issues and the back and forth that went on. But something has definitely changed and ever since you identified who you were, I have been trying to put my finger on it. I would like to think it's just the nature of the forum as it is today (which isn't that great with all the bickering) but I can't help but think it is in your interactions as well. You talk about people lying and point them out and it's obvious it makes you very angry. But some of those attacks I really didn't see them the same way. Sometimes people are just voicing their opinions or a summary of how they view things, and I don't see anything wrong with that even if they are incorrect in my opinion or inadequate in source information. At least it gives me food for thought....another way of looking at things perhaps, much like a conversation with someone. I would much prefer that type of interaction than the one liners or outright verbal assaults that some seem to use this forum for. Of course, this is JMHO, for what it's worth, but I enjoy conversation, debating, etc, and I don't feel that on an informal forum such as this one that we should have to worry about every "mistake" in conversation that we make. In fact, maybe, like in face to face conversation, we could be more forgiving and inquire of one's meaning instead of atttacking. Just a thought.

In the meantime, I hope you keep posting , but I think I much prefer your old style. 😊 As to your last line above, I totally agree. That's why I often try to do more reading/listening than responding as I try to understand more clearly all there is to know about the world and politics. Your posts in the past are what got me on this path to want to learn so many years ago, along with others on this forum - some still here and some that I miss.

I guess what this really is is a plea for everyone to be a little more respectful of one another - me included. Peace everyone and carry-on.

Nobody cares, but my total and complete distaste for Donald Trump is difficult for me to put into words. I abhor everything he stands for, and find him to be the single most failed human being.

In fact, you remind me of an old boss of mine, still a really good friend, actually more like a brother to me. He too is a very strong conservative and could not from the get go even consider voting for Trump. To this day I have no idea who he voted for because we just don't talk about it. As a conservative myself, I did not vote for Trump in the primary but eventually did when he won the nomination. I have my reasons for how I voted and he has his, we just don't judge each other based on that. I have family members all over the spectrum politically, but the only thing that kept us from all getting together over the holidays was me having the flu. We wouldn't allow politics to get in between us even though we've had some heated conversations about it. I feel blessed about that - just wish we could have more of that here. I guess we can keep trying.
