Nope, no one answered if they would still love their child if they said they were going to marry a same sex partner. They stated if their child was a homosexual but not to the marrying part. At least Cheney had the cajones to write a press release about that - even though it was probably false.

No one answered the Sally Ride part of the question either.

I still think my answer above accurately reflects the view of any devout Christian.

buggyone, liberals always try to make conservatives seem as if they hate homosexuals, and that is not true...we all know homosexual people who are sweet and kind and we want them to be protected by civil unions in regard to those they love. we just do not want the historic, religious meaning of marriage changed to accomodate their "different" lifestyle. this is no different than not accepting tri-way marriages, marriages of children etc...marriage is between one man and one woman for the purpose of nurturing a family, which is the backbone of society...this liberalism is just another way to destroy religious values upon which society is based. why? because there are those who would prefer the masses depend on govt rather than on family and God. homosexuals are just being used as their pawns. it is sad that they do not see this.

Personally, I feel that a civil union for gays and lesbians is the same as a traditional Justice of the Peace wedding for straight couples. It is a civil ceremony but is still called a marriage. Why not allow that for gays and lesbians - and have them afforded ALL the legal benefits of a traditional (straight couple) marriage?

buggyone, you drive me buggy! you do not respond to any of my points about the calculated destruction of the foundations of our society, you just want to know how i feel about dick cheney and sally ride! if you had understood my post, you would deduce that i do not care about dick cheney supporting his daughter, that is a natural parental role. and i certainly take nothing away from sally ride's accomplishments because she was a lesbian.
but none of that means i want the definition of marriage changed. as david brookes said in a very good article in playboy "you have to honor the things that have lasted" (paraphrased)

There was no mocking or ridicule in my post. It was fact. The viewpoints put forth by the Tea Party and the "I see a communist everywhere in government" posters (i.e. John Birchers) are regressive back to the thinking and ideas of the 1950's Joe McCarthy era.

The USA is a country that is forward thinking instead of going backwards.

buggyone, we are so advanced and progressive now that the vitriol over Chick-Fil-A has resulted in the heart attack and death of its public relations head in Atlanta...there is so much visciousness and deviseness and lack of human decency and respect for others' beliefs that our entire society is probably too far gone to ever regain what we once cherished as Americans. you see this as welcome progress? sorry, i do not. and it is the relentless push of liberalism to destroy our religious and traditional values that has brought this all on. i don't know why i bother looking at these posts!

Ahh yes - the fifties! What a great time for a white man. No civil rights troubles - they knew their place; never heard about homosexuals - the word gay meant happy! Pre- women's lib - women wore bras (which were unmentionables). Of course marginal tax rates were much much higher than today, but those were good times!

No bigotry on my part. Just facts. One poster titled her post "Give me the 50's anytime." That is regressive thinking. Can you disprove that? Some Tea Party people want to take the country back in time 50 or 60 years. We have to move FORWARD.

I have a decent knowledge of the Tea Party. I copied a good link you should read and it is from the Tea Party. Look at all the subjects on it. Does not look like the kind of political affiliation I would belong to ever.

Eweissenbach has some good memories of the '50's. I remember being in grade school and having air raid drills, later people had bomb shelters in their basements - and Joe McCarthy was raging about Communists in Hollywood and the State Department.

Now, if we were talking about the religious left, there might be a better argument. The religious left has been virtually subjugating and devaluing minorities in this country for years, by cheating them of their own sense of self worth by urging them to be dependent on the state.

I don't know. I grew up in the inner city in the fifties and went to school with many minorities. All my friends in school who were of minority status had both a mother and father at home, with the father generally being the breadwinner just like in my family. Every Sunday I saw them with their families in the same church I went to.

Now because of the influence of the liberal factions of this country in trying to provide everything to all people, over 70% of minority children grow up in single parent homes.

You have swallowed hook line and sinker the propaganda being promoted by Marsahll Kirk and Erastes Pill in their November 1987 missive " Overhauling Straight America" a missive posted on this forum in the past by one of its members. It is too lengthy to quote here by pont by point. It is being implemented for instance in Hollywood's portrays of gay and gay realtionships and frequency in every movie, sitcom reality show etc and it is done being for the obvous reason to make it seem allso normal and all american. It is against military code to have the military in uniform participate in anything by military ceremonies yet uniformed military participated in the Gay Pride complements of....... It just shows you how far this propaganda has spread and the pressure being placed on politicians in this country. Politicians with no backbone by the way

There are not many things that can get the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up but this issue is one. CHACHACHA was spot on with her post. You seem to forget it is "Adam and Eve" not "Adam and Evan". To define marriage as anything other than between a man and a woman is going to open a pandora's box as to other claims to be made. This great nation was built on family as a unit. Statistics have shown that children do better being reared by a mother and a father.

I am not buying into a gay lifesyle as normal and just an alternative lifestyle. It is unnatural and whether it is a child of mine or not I will not accept them sleeping side by side with a member of the same sex. Its wrong wrong wrong.
