I defend what I've heard about the Affordable Care Act, but I'm confessing I haven't read all 906 pages. I'm also admitting that the Supreme Court knows more than I do, and they will decide whether it stands.

Thanks for at least being honest, and perhaps more sources might help you.

BUT....it is exactly how this thing became law of the country

I wonder how many of the critics of the Affordable Care Act on this forum have actually read the law. They keep spouting the same drivell about Pelosi saying to pass it then read it. Have these ubers read it or are they just spouting drivell?

Actually, I have followed the ever changing CBO opinion quite closely, and have read numerous anti bill articles in medical journals. Anyone who says they have read the law is not telling the truth.

That is why I get confused when you and others come on here and talk about how wonderful it is. I have read enough about the financial reprecussions down the road to scare me a lot. What this country does NOT need is another financial boondoogle.

This President has already said he would do this (the public health bill) in public and didnt (not to mention the back room deals just to get the votes)...bailed out automakers IN FINLAND for one.....bailed out the guys on Wall St and then blamed all their money on the other party.

Of course there are good parts of this bill, but the total package is something we have not even seen the beginning of. It does NOTHING..NOTHING about health costs in this country...NOTHING. and of course this is what he said the bill was all about.

And folks who have opinions on this bill are not spouting "drivel" as you call it.....it is their opinion. Why do you find it necessary to slam with your mouth those who do not agree with you ? Certainly disagree if you wish, but the calling of names just makes you non credible...it is called an opinion...not "drivel"

Just ask any parent whose 22 year old child can now stay on the parent's healthcare. Just ask any parent whose child could not get health insurance due to a pre-existing condition.

The Affordable Health Care Act is a blessing for many. It is the law of the land. The US Supreme Court will decide if all parts of it are constitutional. Until that time, it is the law of the land.

Trust in what has happened. Just because you are not in synch with President Obama, do not disparage all of the good works he has done.

In the meantime, tune in to MSNBC tonight and watch how the Republicans are in self-destruct mode in Iowa. Rather comical, in my opinion (or is that drivel).:boxing2: I cannot wait to hear what Bill Mahr has to say about the Iowa caucus.

You need to read the law to see what a mess it is. Just the table of contents are overwhelming.....they've thrown in everything but the kitchen sink. Who in the world can oversee and administer such a monstrosity.....and then do it "AFFORDABLY"??

See: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/.../~c111jHqyYr::

The Supreme Court ruling on whether it is constitutional has no bearing on "affordability"......nor on solvency of the entire system and our nation's economy overall.

BANKRUPT systems have a hard time delivering high quality services evenly to everyone.

"Crippling" is what this law is, taking things from bad to worse.

Healthcare cost... It never ceases to amaze me that the American people will pay $40,000 for a new vehicle few years, several thousand a year to insure it, and thousands to fill it with gas. They will spend thousands on cruises, cigarettes, gambling, bowling, golf, FOOTBALL. Add a couple hundred a month or more to access cable TV and internet both via laptops &/or cellular phones. How bout a quarter of a mill on a new home or second home...
But whine and cry about the price of their healthcare?!?!?!? You don't get an MRI, a resection of that brain tumor, several months of radiation&/or chemo treatments, anti-nausea meds and necessary steriod, without the cost of the technology AND SKILLS and EDUCATION that brought you these minor conveniences...Maybe it takes some time in the "foxhole" to make believers out of some.

Katz: Then explain some of the following to me.

Why can Pfizer make a profit on selling drugs to Germany and Canada at half (or less) the price as in the US?

Why are health insurance costs increasing so much faster than inflation, and have been since the 1980s?

Why is it that the same emergency care (including X-rays) that cost $550 in Montreal, Canada was costing FOUR TIMES that in a hospital 235 miles away in New Hampshire?

Why do drugs and other procedures cost MORE even though the technology behind them costs LESS? (I actually DO know the answer to that one - partially)

Why is it that we spend MORE THAN TWICE per capita what what ANY other country spends, yet are ranked #37 in health care and (by our own CIA World Fact Book) 55th in life expectancy, tied with CUBA?

It's that last one that really gets me. In every other sector of the economy we *DEMAND* out money's worth - to the point of outsourcing manufacturing to get the cheapest price. But when it comes to health care? No such "Yankee Thrift" exists.

With all due respect sir, I have spent far too much time explaining certain things to certain people on this forum, only to have it all thrown out as tho I don't know my arse from a hole in the ground. I'm not sure how my post lead to a request for me to explain anything to anyone. I was simply making an observation...no explanations necessary nor will I waste my valuable time.

Yes, Katz, those things do cost lots of money - and most people do not the $$$ to pay for those costs. $100,000 for a bypass operation or $200,000 for cancer treatment is beyond the scope of most people. That is why we have health insurance. That is why health insurance is needed by everyone and the Affordable Health Care Act takes care of it. You are guaranteed acceptance by a health insurance carrier. You will not be dropped for having too many costs. As you know, a child with a chronic disease could wipe out a family savings and then the family could not get health insurance due to the pre-existing condition.

Guest 01-05-2012 09:36 PM

What percentage of the population are these which you describe? Those with Medicaid are NEVER refused care for whatever is needed. Then there are those who are given charity care...the medical facilities write off the charge.

What does this tell you about the great Obamacare?

"By and large, unions backed the health care overhaul, a law from which nearly a half million of their workers are now exempt."

http://dailycaller.com/2012/01/06/la...acare-waivers/

Over 700 companies exempt from Obamacare...most are Obama supporters...
