Exclamation Only Republicans are Bad

or have some of our worse financial times due to the Democrats?

On assuming office in 1977, President Carter inherited an economy that was slowly emerging from a recession. He had severely criticized former President Ford for his failures to control inflation and relieve unemployment, but after four years of the Carter presidency, both inflation and unemployment were considerably worse than at the time of his inauguration. The annual inflation rate rose from 4.8% in 1976 to 6.8% in 1977, 9% in 1978, 11% in 1979, and hovered around 12% at the time of the 1980 election campaign. Although Carter had pledged to eliminate federal deficits, the deficit for the fiscal year 1979 totaled $27.7 billion, and that for 1980 was nearly $59 billion. With approximately 8 million people out of work, the unemployment rate had leveled off to a nationwide average of about 7.7% by the time of the election campaign, but it was considerably higher in some industrial states.

Sighs......

Do we have to go all the way back to Carter to keep this blame game going?
Politicians on both sides of this wretched 2 party system have contributed to exactly where we are today. They all take money from special interests, they all vote for bills with ridiculous earmarks, loaded with pork.
I carry no great pride for either "side" at this point.

Seems it would be a greater use of effort and intellect to start looking at ways to start the long and arduous repairs we are painfully obligated to begin. And to with participating in the party wars.

Default Enough of the blame game

To try to place the blame on one party or the other doesn't matter at this point. We need to follow the right path to recovery.
The only way we are going to recover from this financial crisis is for the President (now, and whoever is elected) and both houses of Congress (both democrats and republicans) work together for the voters who elected them. In simple terms, all of them need to do what they were elected to do.
Sorry, please forgive me, that would be reasonable, logical and sensible and after all we are talking about government working for the good of the voters so rest assured this will never happen.

Ah! Common sense! This is exactly what I was trying to get for a response! My post was to point out that blaming one party for our problems and carrying forward to the current candidates doesn't work.

There seems to be a group on the Political Thread that blames McCain/Republicans, through osmosis from President Bush's administration, to be the fault/reason for all that is wrong in this country. I expected more Bush/Republican bashing or defense of the Democratic President and I'm happy to have a response that one cannot carry "the blame game' forward and that we need solutions, not blame.

The automated calls from the McCain campaign are about as slimy as you can get. I'm beginning to really think this man is psychotic. He goes on talk shows and swears he and Palin are running a clean campaign and the next day these calls come out. This is not a man that puts "Country First" this is a man that puts "Winning First". McCain is tearing apart democracy loud and clear. In my opinion, he has sold his soul to the devil. And I don't say that lightly.

Default If they are politicians it is a given they use slime.....

some are better than others....some are more discreet than others, but they ALL partake in slime.
So measuring degrees of slime is sort of self gratifying when one needs it I guess.
Another example, I got a phone call from the Democratic party by a real person. They wanted to know if I was voting for Obama. I said no. They wanted to know why. I said I just don't like him. Now instead of pursuing, why I didn't like him or what could they do to help understand more about Obama....they immediately went to their ...if they say no page and asked if I knew enough about John McCain to say no to Obama.
I politely said I know enough about Obama to vote for who ever was running against him.
Usually by now I would have hung up on the intrusion of my relax time, but there are times I am interested to hear what they have to offer, next.
They must have gone to the page labeled, if they still say no....they immediately went into the did you know McCain this or that catharsis
I then stated there was absolutely nothing they could say to me to change my mind. Yup you guessed it...they went to the page in their stuff labeled and if they still say no. It started with we understand but did you know....I interupted and asked them if they had a response to when I count to 3 the answer is still no and I am going to hang up....they hung up first.....

It was my entertainment of the moment....probably theirs too as most would have hung up on them mush sooner.

Both parties utilize slime....it is the stock and trade of a politician for Pete's sake.
