Dale, low income and elderly people have to have the proper ID to receive Social Security benefits and/or other benefits from other government agencies. It is the same ID that is required to vote.

Wisconsin is one of seven states that I could find which will, or are currently, requiring what would be considered "strict photo ID" to vote. Seven others require photo ID but have exceptions.

And if I may ask, who is this "they" you are talking about? "They also closed several agencies..." The state legislators?

Ok ..... here is what really happened to a 96 year old women in Tennessee. Don't think this is a socialist paper.... This women has voted in every election but one since she was eligible to vote. She has never driven. She was denied the voter ID card.

Yeah there is something else.

First off, who cares what Sinclair Lewis says.
There is very little, if any, man made Global Warming. Real scientists recognize that the earth is cycling warm and cooling for centuries.
Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme. It will tumble when 78 million Baby Boomers retire.
Trade Unions have served their purpose and are now just thugs.

Anything else?

It's annoying when someone makes you think outside of your neat little box isn't it?

1. Sinclair Lewis won the Nobel prize in Literature. To ignore what he said is nothing to be proud of.
2. Real scientists?
3. The politicians are cowardly enough to make the wealthy minority pay for the SS benefits of the many. We found the money for IRAQ, we will find it for SS.
4. In the 1950s 37% of the private work force was unionized. That percentage is down to 8 now. Benefits and salaries are sliding downward with the percentages.
5. The real thugs bundled sub-prime mortgages into packages and sold them, and then took out insurance against their own products. Is that consistent with fiduciary responsibility?

I think that your responses are regurgitated FOX news reports, and not indicative of independent thought.
You reacted in a predictable manner to every one of the topics that I brought up.

Wait! You missed one. Why are you in favor of tort reform?

Liberals are so condescending. I wonder why. Must be their false sense of superiority or their lack of knowledge?

1) Obama won nobel peace prize, nuff said about nobel, huh?
2) Many scientists believe the activities of our sun controls our climate cycle.
All planets in our solar system are warmer now, Coincidence?
3)We have not found any money, we borrow 42 cents of every dollare we spend.
4)The correlation of wages and unions is bogus.
5) Fannie Mae with the help of Chris Dodd and Barney Frank are responsible for the melt down.

I have plenty of independent thought and I think that there are people with pompous attitude that must come form PBS,NBC, CNN.

You should take your own advice and think outside of the box.

Well, it's a shame that Ms. Cooper hasn't had a valid ID for all these years and that the new procedures have her caught up, but in the interest of fairness she's going to have to straighten our her paperwork.

Guest 10-08-2011 10:04 PM

What the heck?! We have had to show picture ID to vote for the last 15 years or more! I do like the idea of of the ink on the thumb to prevent going back for seconds tho.

I know where you are going with this

I think that I know where you are going with this. I acknowledge that manufacturing is way down in the USA, but blaming the unions goes too far. It must be remembered that it was the unions that allowed the establishment of the middle class. We no longer must buy our goods at the company store with company scrip.

I think that the fault lies with the failure of our government to recognize that wholesale expansion of trade with the third world would ruin our standard of living. Perhaps this ignorance on the part of our government was by design, and at the behest of the the multi-nationals. Paul Krugman another Nobel-Prize winner suggested that we divide the world into enterprise zones to protect the standard of living of the American people.

In the interest of fairness....she has her birth certificate has been registered for what 70 years? This 96 year old women went in with a boatload of papers well in advance because she did want her right to vote taken away.

And 17 counties in Tennessee don't even have a DAV office which is the only place you can get the voter ID card.

This is voter suppression clear and simple.

It is not my intent to annoy you. It is my intent to draw out the truth and see which arguments hold more water.

Now with regard to #5, You must see "Inside Job". It is available from Netflix. You may enjoy it. Along with the others it indicts the Obama administration for hiring the same leftover economists from the Bush Administration.

Very good point. I was brought up in manufacturing circles, and I can tell you that it is all but gone.:cus:

According to an article in today's paper, Wall Street gave it's largest campaign donation in history to Obama, who in turn bailed out the banks. In the article it jokingly called Goldman Sachs the fourth branch of government.

Guest 10-09-2011 10:13 AM

Interesting reading tip ~Gretchen Morgenson's "RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT". A central figure in the book is Jim Johnson. He just happens to be on the board at Goldman Sachs and also just happens to be former CEO of Fannie Mae. Hmmm....
So add the name Jim Johnson to Chris Dodd and Barney Frankenbean.
