According to a Congressional report the Clintons took $362,000 worth of White House property. After the uproar they sent $28,000 of it back and wrote a check for $86,000.

Also the GAO reported over $20,000 of damage to the West Wing. This included missing keyboards, cell phones, door knobs (?!), etc.

I suspect, however, the Obama and Bush staffs will both act professional.

Yes like they took the W's from all the keyboards....Right?

Guess again those rumors were debunked. But Fox News almost never retracts something that they get wrong.

These 'rumors' have never been debunked since you cannot debunk the truth. It is also true that Air Force One was looted. But that is past, what we need to concern ourselves with is what is to come. One of the first things that our President-elect has promised is passage and implementation of card check. This is a law that will turn our workplaces back over to the union goons.

If a union can collect signatures representing a majority of those who would be represented favoring unionization of a plant, a job site, a church or a school; then that organization is immediate unionized. We all know from history what union goons under the leadership of a Jimmy Hoffa or Dave Beck can do. The people of the United States have been steadily turning away from unions - they are obsolete. In a number of cases, the people have turned out the unions and saved the money they were being forced to spend on union dues. Both unionization and decertifying of a union had to be done by secret ballot. Since the unions were consistently losing, the bosses decided that democracy had to go. BHO and NP are supporting them in this.

Watch this one closely; if a party favors doing away with democracy in one part of your life, how soon will it be that the concept be applied to all elections?

I know that President elect Obama is the co sponsor of this card check bill, but I sure hope he changes his mind on this.

Having negotiated with and worked with unions for years, I can attest to the fact that there is a HUGE difference between the signatures and a secret ballot !! HUGE ! The union heads who are pushing him on this know this fact !

This has a large ECONOMIC impact as well on our country !!

Does this "cute" comment mean you are against the secret ballot previouly used ???

Guest 11-09-2008 07:31 PM

Which ship is that? I just think that the President-elect is pragmatic enough to know when to pull back on a campaign promice. The secret ballot is part of the American way of life. It will give the GOP in Congress something to campaign on. Obama is not a stupid man.

Regarding the damage to the whitehouse by the outgoing administration and denied by many in this forum ....how do you explain the photo's in the washington post and the detroit news ?????????? Pictures of typewriter keys are hard to fudge and besides , why would they want too.........

Please don't contribute unless you know what your talking about........

Guest 11-09-2008 08:46 PM

Instead of ................

I am NOT a fan of Bush, but please remember the alternative was John Kerry!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!

Guest 11-09-2008 09:05 PM

Yes I know JFK wouldn't recognize the Democratic party and the Clinton's were, and still are, the root of all evil. :1rotfl:

But Colorado is blue and in El Paso County, the 16th most conservative county in the nation, 41% of the vote was for Obama. Things are looking really good to me. We got rid of the worst Congresswomen....Marilyn Musgrave so now its 5 to 2 Dems to Repubs in Congress for CO and we now have 2 Democratic Senators. :beer3:

And soon W will be back in Texas.....

I'm with you SABRMnLgs. Sometimes I would like to shake W until his teeth fall out of his head, but I thank God every night that he's President and not Gore or Kerry.

Goodbye to King George

Goodbye, we can say at last, to the most powerful man in the world being such a ridiculous buffoon, incapable of stringing together two coherent sentences. Goodbye to cringing with dread every time our president steps onto the world stage, sure he'll say or do something to embarrass us all. Goodbye to being represented by a man who embodies everything our enemies want the people of the world to believe about America -- that we are ignorant, cruel, and only care about foreign countries when we decide to stomp on them. Goodbye to his giggle, and his shoulder shake, and his nicknames. Goodbye to a president who talks to us like we're a nation of fourth-graders.

And goodbye, of course, to Dick Cheney. Goodbye to the man whose naked contempt for democracy contorted his face to a permanent sneer.

Goodbye to the rotating cast of butchers manning the White House's legal abattoir, where the Constitution has been sliced and bled and gutted since September 11. Goodbye to the "unitary executive" theory and its claims that the president can do whatever he wants -- even snatch an American citizen off the street and lock him up for life without charge, without legal representation, and without trial. Goodbye to the promiscuous use of "signing statements" (1,100 at last count) to declare that the law is whatever the president says it is, and that he'll enforce only those laws he likes. Goodbye to an executive branch that treats lawfully issued subpoenas like suggestions that can be ignored. Goodbye to the culture of incompetence, where rebuilding a country we destroyed could be turned over to a bunch of clueless 20-somethings with no qualifications save an internship at the Heritage Foundation and an opposition to abortion. Goodbye to the "Brownie, you're doin' a heckuva job" philosophy, where vital agencies are turned over to incompetent boobs to rot and decay. Goodbye to handing out the Medal of Freedom as an award for engineering one of the greatest screw-ups of our time. Goodbye to an administration that welcomed gluttonous war profiteering, that was only too happy to outsource every government function it could to well-connected contractors who would do a worse job for more money.

Goodbye to the Bush Doctrine of preemptive war. Goodbye to the lust for sending off other people's sons and daughters to fight and kill and die just to show your daddy you're a real man. Goodbye to playing dress-up in flight suits, goodbye to strutting and posing and desperate sexual insecurity as a driver of American foreign policy. Goodbye to the neocons, so sinister and deluded they beg us all to become fevered conspiracy theorists. Goodbye to Guantanamo and its kangaroo courts. Goodbye to the use of torture as official U.S. government policy, and goodbye to the immoral ghouls who think you can rename it "enhanced interrogation techniques" and render it any less monstrous.

Goodbye to the accusation that if you disagree with what the president wants to do, you don't "support the troops."

Goodbye to putting industry lobbyists in charge of the agencies that are supposed to regulate those very industries. Goodbye to madly giving away public lands to private interests. Goodbye to a Food and Drug Administration that acts like a wholly owned subsidiary of the pharmaceutical industry, except when it acts like a wholly owned subsidiary of the fundamentalist puritans who believe that sex is dirty and birth control will turn girls into sluts.

Goodbye to vetoing health insurance for poor children but rushing back to Washington to sign a bill to keep alive a woman whose cerebral cortex had liquefied. Goodbye to the ban on federal funding of embryonic stem-cell research.

Goodbye to the philosophy that says that if we give tax cuts to the rich and keep the government from any oversight of the economy, prosperity will eventually trickle down. Goodbye to the thirst for privatizing Social Security and to the belief that the success of a social safety-net program is what makes it a threat and should mark it for destruction. Goodbye to the war on unions and to a National Labor Relations Board devoted to crushing them. Goodbye to the principle of loyalty above all else, that nominates Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court and puts Alberto Gonzales in charge of the Justice Department. And goodbye to that Justice Department, the one where U.S. attorneys keep their jobs only if they are willing to undertake bogus investigations of Democrats timed to hit the papers just before Election Day. Goodbye to a Justice Department where graduates of Pat Robertson's law school roam the halls by the dozens, where "justice" is a joke.

Goodbye to James Dobson and a host of radical clerics picking up the phone and hearing someone in the White House on the other end. Goodbye to the most consequential decisions being made on the basis of one man's "gut," a gut that proved so wrong so often. Goodbye to the contempt for evidence, to the scorn for intellect and book learnin', to the relentless war on science itself as a means of understanding the world.

Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye to it all.

OMG - Can one man hate this much? Apparently so. Mindless liberalism leads to mindless hate. I do not hold that all liberals are mindless but do believe Winston Churchill when he said, "A man of 21 who is not a socialist has no heart; a man of thirty who is not a capitalist has no head."

This is reminiscent of the hate that has come from the far left in the 20th century - think of Adolf Hitler and the National Socialists, Joseph Stalin and the Russian Communists and the worst of them all, Mao Se Tung - again a leftist and a butcher of more than 40 million people.

Mindless hate and its consequent destruction of large segments of the population comes ONLY from the left - progressives, socialists, marxists, communists, etc. Today we see it in Al Queda, Hamas, Hezbollah, other extremist muslim Nazi organizations and in their supporters such as Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dorn, etc. And given the track record of these people, you question one of the few men to stand up to them?

George W. Bush has been despised by the intellectual elite, just as my hero, Harry Truman, was. Like Harry, history will assign him a high place in the list of accomplished US Presidents. While I have my doubts, I truly hope that Barack Obama is at least, if nor more, successful as a president.

JJ, IMHO, this is worthless ultra, ultra left politics, provides not one insightful thought for me and makes me extremely grateful Paul Waldman did not run for presidential office and makes me really wonder about our new president if Mr. Waldman endorses him.

Wow! That was my point in starting this thread. That screed was a mindless exercise in hate. No one can be proud of those type of feelings, especially as they are not particularly grounded in facts. I suspect, although I cannot be sure, that history will be much kinder to President Bush, much like President Truman.

Guest 11-13-2008 10:16 PM

Well, this is my first (and probably) last post in political, but had to respond to this.

Having moved to TV from High Point, NC, and knowing one of the families personally that made donations to the White House from their furniture companies, The Clintons DID take furniture as tho it had been donated to THEM.
My friend raised a royal stink until most of what they donated that The Clintons had taken was returned to The White House.
