Re: PROUD AMERICAN!!!!

We can all read about the candidates until the cows come home and still know diddily squat. Writers have opinions also. As far as voting records go, there is usually so much crap written into every bill that it makes it impossible to know who voted for what..and I think that is done on purpose. Before you get on the soapbox for any candidate, how do you know for sure that what you are posting is even correct? Just because it was in a book, on TV, etc, does NOT make it fact. Ann Colter makes big bucks to sound like Ann Colter. Ditto for Bill-o, Keith O and the rest.

I wish that you, chelsea24, would please stop the personal attacks when someone says something that you do not agree with.

Amazing that folks cannot resist doing this kind of cheap stuff !

And no, Obama did not take out huge loans to pay for his education. His white grandparents worked and paid for his education. .

Ok so I am not sure that your comments earlier are something I would consider to be racist...I keep reading it over and over again....changing my mind....but I lean toward thinking they are....

However while you may not have intentionally meant to sound racist....the comment about his WHITE grandparents paying for it could also be taken as racist, even though it is just a fact...they were white...but I find the fact that you had to add in that one word "WHITE" made it sound a little racist.

It could have been said that his grandparents paid for it....does it really matter whether they were white or not?

Second: I don't know if the comment on his financial college payment is even all true...as he did say he had loans, scholarships and help from his grandparents. He stated on national television in front of millions of people....that he had student loans. Perhaps both of you are right....

I guess my point is that chels may have taken your comments as racist. I think you probably could ask 50 people if they thought it was and you may get mixed reviews. We are allowed to have our opinions....just like you are...but we are also allowed to disagree. Chels thought it was racist....she was offended and told you so. Period. Perhaps explaining some of your comments in a different fashion may help the situation. When discribing McCain his whole genetic make up is not brought up.

Samhass You said you didn't say BTK's statement was racist, but your first sentence says, "I can't believe you posted that. It was racist and ugly."

I AGREE ....that we should hear all about him....but his genetic makeup has NOTHING to do with his ability or inability to run this country!!!!!

As far as McCain being in the public eye for many years...so what! Do you know how many politicians dem or repub have been in the public eye and we still hear things about them....that is not a valid reason to bring into anyone's geneological family history....who cares we he or anyone else is from....or what color they are....that was my point!!!

They don't refer to McCain or even Biden for that matter...as the White Man....

Perhaps you should have quoted my entire comment!! Please do not think I agree with most everything else you have to say. Do not take my words and twist them around...to make people think we think the same.

For the rest of the people reading this comment...please refer to my entire statement above. Those of you that know me...will have already done so...I am not too worried.

Re: PROUD AMERICAN!!!!
I can't believe you just posted that. It was racist and ugly. I am so not inviting you to my birthday party.

I fear that many white men on the lower rungs of the socio-economic ladder are very resentful of his education, class, success, etc. What a shame. I think he took out huge loans to pay for his education. Most of us make our choices in life. He made the right one.

You said "Obama is a very insecure person with a severe complex that stems from his African father's abandonment of him." Gee, how do you know that? Do you hang with him??

No code to it. Obama is a globalist/multiculturalist with a vast and varied array of colorful and not so American friendly associates, not to mention Davis, his Communist mentor and other friends with terrorist connections.
Obama is a very insecure person with a severe complex that stems from his African father's abandonment of him. At the same time, he is a hater of white people, this stems from his connections with his black grandparents and parents Luo tribe in Africa. This we do not need or want as our President. There is a hidden agenda, read all you can about him and you will find it unbelieveable, if you are a true American.
I can't believe there are a handful of so called Americans who would vote for the guy, he is so un-American.

Exactly !

And I would like to see Sen. Obama where he is in a true response scenario, rather than always being heavily scripted, well-rehearsed and teleprompter at the ready.

I have no idea on how Sen. Obama would respond to crises, as he has no documented history of having to deal with anything coming close to being a crisis. Sure, he gives great speeches, but so does James Earl Jones and George C. Scott - any good actor can! Where does the actor end and the man begin?

If Sen. Obama wants me to bet with my vote that he is the better man at times of crises, prove it! Anyone can drive a car in a straight line on a smooth road, but what happens when the potholes appear out of nowhere?

Sen. McCain, by virtue of a long life and several events, has proven his competency in times of crises. That's the tough part of being longer-in-the-tooth, that being having to face more bumps in the road, especially those not of life's choosing.

It is the candidate's job to prove their mettle, not mine to find out through research and analysis. They are the applicants for the job, coming to me, one of the folks on the national selection committee. My job is to get the most for my vote.

Why Do We Waste Our Time?

There are some thoughtful posts in threads like this one, as well as some that are not only thoughtless and dumb, but hateful as well.

After having read almost all of them in all the "national" political threads, I've concluded that not one single person is going to change their mind on which candidate they intend to vote for in November as the result of these exchanges. That's notwithstanding many carefully researched and well-written messages. We all "read into" the facts what we wish. We all seem to have convinced ourselves of our choice and are abominably inept in changing even one other person's mind. Whether that's the fault of the antagonist of the debate or the protagonist, who knows?

All we're doing is wasting time and bandwidth with these arguments as well as aggravating (at best, at worst maybe enraging) our neighbors. Think about it--would we enter into these debates if we went out to dinner with friends or neighbors or people we met on the town square? Or are we simply empowered to say this stuff because of the security and disguise provided by screen names and the internet?

Why are we bothering? Why are we wasting our time?

If the goal is to aggravate, insult, belittle or gloat, then it is indeed a waste of bandwidth.

If the goal is an intellectual exchange of opinions, with the realization that we are not all perfect, often wrong, but willing to try to understand the other person, what makes them think and tick, and what is important to someone other than ourselves, then the boards serve an invaluable purpose.

All of the above have happened, and whether the board goes from back-biting to brain-expanding depends on the intent of the writers.

We should be entering these boards agreeing that we may disagree more often than not, but that not agreeing does not mean negative feelings.

Personally, I'd like to sit down and split a good bottle of wine (or the spirit of choice) with just about everyone on this board, because for the most part they seem like a fun bunch. One thing is for sure - it wouldn't be boring....

A toast to all, and laissez les bon temps rouler!
