What is often forgotten is that Bush did not win the popular vote and would not have been President except for the "screw up" in Florida. How soon we forget!

If you believe what you see in many of these responses you could come to that conclusion. People seem to let their political slant conveniently overlook the root causes of the Great Recession and the War in Iraq.
I talked to a neighbor who was a sniper in Iraq. He said that for the most part Iraqi's want us to fight their fight. Remember Saddam had the conflict among Shiites and Sunnis under control.
I actually haven't seen this level of political fervor since the "McCarthy Era" when many were labelled "Communists". No internet and three TV channels tempered some of that.
Whatever happened to the "Peace and Love" generation of the 60's?
Perhaps they've grown old and angry.

Great post and I'll add to your quote, "Of course fascism will arrive in the United States, it will be described as patriotism." That nationalistic fervor is what propelled the Nazi party to control ww2 Germany!

You're joking right? Look at the percentages of the last election and tell us what demographic is going to vote republican and for what reason?

President Obama won two back to back electoral landslides with over 51% of the vote both times.

Only six other presidents, in the history of this country, have done that...not Clinton, not Reagan. You have to go all the way back to Eisenhower to find the last time this happened.

In all due respect when you have 47% of the voting public getting "free stuff" it doesn't take much of an effort to reach 51% +

Secondly as the first racial nominee a heavily invested civil right leaning liberal media worked and continues to work to embellish this man's record. Yet what they have created are higher expectations than this guy could ever deliver. If his policy record represents "best practices" this country is in deep doo doo because by all accounts he has moving red lines a healthcare program that will economically seek this country without metting its quality objectives. doctors are either leaving the profession or joining ACO's because they can't survive as independents This means that profits takes preference over patient needs. some doctors have outright remove 3rd part payers from the equation. hence they treat patients, patients pay them directly and then turn to insurer or government for reimbursement

Should read disguised as patriotism!

What math defines a "landslide" as 51%?

51% is ONLY one percent away from either man winning.

Yes it only takes one vote more to win.....but 51% is no landslide!

If you read my post again, you will see that I said electoral landslide. That final tally for 2012 was 332 to 206. President Obama, according to this Washington Post count, actually won 50.6% of the popular vote in 2012, compared to 53% in 2008.

On the electoral vote count that is a landslide.

My guess is that a lot of the naysayers here are not of the peace and love generation. You'll see them come into play more and more as the 1946 - 1964 baby boomers become a larger and larget presence.
