Default Response from The Oprah Magazine dated 6/11/2008

I have been trying to get the media involved with arming survivors of crimes with access to practical information in various US states. This one is in response to my efforts in NY State with the media located in NY State.

Dear O, The Oprah Magazine:

I am a Sumter County, Florida (the Villages) resident and have been
working on a project since around 1991 from various states (MN, CA, IL and
FL) to improve resources available through libraries to survivors and
victims of crimes. Think this should be of interest to victims of crimes
in NY State and other states.

Here in FL , in 2000 (June 28, 2000), I received a snail mail letter from
Rodney Doss, Director of the FL Division of Victim Services and Criminal
Justice Programs about the Florida Victim Services Directory.

This letter was about my promoting the FL Victim Services Directory to
libraries which I have tried to get linked from public library and law
library web-pages here in Florida.

I have been interested in this issue since my then high school English
teacher's daughter Michelle Mitchell was murdered on my birthday of
February 24 back in 1976 in Reno, Nevada. I had tried to interest public
health professors and officials in this accessibility following my 17
weeks in a late 1992 and early 1993 study at the University of California
San Francisco Medical School where I was subject 613.

I have used these two numbers 2 2 4 and 6 1 3 since 1993 as part of my
rallying call for a wide array of people and groups to help with getting
information about local and state resources for survivors of various kinds
of crimes.

I am trying to persuade librarians from other states to hook up their
web-sites to their state's version of a victim assistance directory. For
instance, the one for New York is
http://www.cvb.state.ny.us/HelpforCr...eaProgram.aspx. While
the one for Minnesota is
http://www.ojp.state.mn.us/MCCVS/Sea...ory/Search.asp

Hope that you will get involved with requesting public libraries in NY to
get a link to the Program Locator for crime victims.

Again, I hope that you will help with making victims' resources more
visible to someone who might be looking for this information by making
sure links to are available at various NY public and law libraries.

Sincerely,
