Microaggressions are the everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership.
That was a new word for me. Aren't Senior Citizens a marginalized group membership? Have you ever been insulted just because you are old? |
I have to admit that I have never been insulted in relation to my age. And I have worked with many young people. They have always shown me respect, even when kidding me about my age. And I have traveled all over the world and met a lot of people in my lifetime. I am sure that it happens all the time, but I guess I have been blessed. Or, maybe I have not warranted that kind of disrespect as to be insulted over my age. Of course, I am a young 66 so I have a ways to go before I am really considered old..8^)

There are far too many with or with out being wealthy that are just what they are....nasty, ill tempered, impatient, get outta my way, me first, the rules do not apply to me type!! Being wealthy is a state of mind and station as measured by the individual. And it is not just measured by a financial statement. That is unfortunately the narrow measure that many use.....and it is confusing. Where does wealthy start? It is most certainly not measured off like a football field. I find the term wealthy being abused about as often as the word resort. |

I know folks that are retired, no debts including paid for home in TV, and live on SS and a very modest IRA. They always speak how fortunate they are to have everything they ever wanted and now the time and money to do what they want.
Wealth....a very subjective state of being. |

I worked 2 jobs and my wife worked one and we raised 3 kids. We could sock it away. That's not the way it is today. We lived after FDR put in place social security minimum wage unemployment insurance abolishing child labor 8,10, 12 yr olds were working in the fields and factories the forty hour work week collective bargaining for unions strong banking regulations deposit insurance in banks [don't hide youre money in you matress] job programs College was dirt cheap. I want my grandchildren to have the same chance I had, we all had. Does that make me selfish? |

We, the middle class did not look out for our children. We let this happen. |

These kids don't have it hard. They make it hard by not using their heads and preparing for their retirement. If they don't have Social Security, it is because no one will let congress modify it and cry if they make the slightest change to the age to qualify for it. The reason there are plenty of wealthy and fewer middle class is not because of the wealthy. It's because there are fewer middle class jobs because the government is getting more and more greedy, expecting the top earners to pay for their frivolous spending. Allowing someone to be on unemployment for two years is stupid. Penalizing small business with Obamacare requirements is stupid. The gov is responsible for the stagnation of our economy, not the wealthy. |
Wow!
Has this topic gone far afield! I come back to the original point: to listen to what the candidates have to say about each other. It ain't over till it's over, and by that time everyone will cover for everyone else along party lines.
This is not meant to support one party over the other but rather to just remember what the candidates say about each other up to this point in the campaign. We all know that this will change dramatically after the conventions. So yes, now is the time to listen--and remember.... |

Back to the original premise of this thread
Remember carefully what the candidates said about each other in the past, and today more than ever--and in the next couple of months too--listen to the flip-flops and changes.
