If a company owner wants to take a political stance on some issue using his or her company as the medium, that seems well within his/her First Amendment rights.

That being said-- more cows are happy with this decision.

"Which part of the First Amendment does (Boston Mayor) Menino not understand? A business owner’s political or religious beliefs should not be a test for the worthiness of his or her application for a business license," the Boston Globe complained in a July 25 editorial. "History will render judgment on the views of Chick-fil-A executives. City Hall doesn’t have to," the editorial board concluding, having noted that there's no evidence that Chick-fil-A breaks any anti-discrimination laws.....

This is where I think the media & many people are missing the point.

It's not about gay or guns or religion or vegan or body piercings or abortion !!

It's about the freedon to believe what you want, and to do your business without what you believe being interfered with by politicians.

We're all running around with little thoughts in our heads and it shouldn't matter to you, me or the next guy where I live, what I buy or do business.

Or who is married to who.

Or who is married to who.

That's true. Or who on earth speaks for God. Unless you have come back from the dead AND had a long conversation, who knows what God is thinking?

Why is it that some of the worst people in world history though were the loudest proclaimers that they knew what God was saying?

The owner of Chick-Fil-a must think he has a personal conduit to God that none of us others do.

One thing I like about both Obama and Romney, neither of them seems to think they have God's ear. Or, at least, that they are the only ones who can hear him.

Quite simply untrue. There is no evidence that supports such a statement.

Let's look at some facts about Chick-Fil-a:
It's the least expensive yet hardest franchise to obtain. To become a new franchise operator costs only $5,000. This is a major contrast to the $500,000 to several million for most fast food franchises. No betting the family fortune and an income is guaranteed.

Less than one percent of the franchise applicants are accepted. The screening process is rigorous.

Total number of franchises and franchise annual income growth are above industry average.

Sales per square foot are among industry highest despite the closed on Sunday policy.

Turnover of staff - one of the best indicators of a company's overall quality, are the lowest in the industry. Franchise operators have a turnover of less than 5% per year. Hourly employees have a turnover of 60% per year which is approximately half the industry average. Pay and benefits are slightly better than other companies in the industry, but the big difference is the closed on Sundays policy. The people like knowing they will be able to plan for activities on one day each week and scheduling will not interfere.

In summary, Chick-Fil-a is a highly successful company with very high charitable givings, a good product and a great place to work. Seems like everything one could ask of a good corporate citizen.

but don't those who believe in the bible and follow its scripture, as mr. cathy seems to, also believe that the bible is the word of god as written by its authors - some of whom knew his son, jesus, and shared a close relationship with him?

i have never been a student of the bible, so i can't say that for sure; but it is what i was led to believe by others who have studied the bible.

The Bible is full of contradictory messages. Who is to say what Jesus would tell a gay couple wanting to be married? Render onto what is Caesar's....

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John also give different versions of Jesus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gospel

How about this very different picture of Judas?

That's true. Just kind of bugs me when someone preaches that they speak for God. Maybe the Pope does speak for God...if you are Catholic though.

I cannot see some CEO/owner of Chick-Fil-A speaking for what God wants with respect to gay marriage. And, this has nothing to do with Chick-Fil-A's accounting practices, franchising, profitability margin, patents, management style, etc.

Good article on the gay re-action to Cathy's statement. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/walt-h...617.html?flv=1
