MOST charter schools are segregated...and MOST are failing. "Charter" doesn't mean good. I had a lot about them in another post...do a search for charter schools if you can. It was an interesting article. The takeaway point was:

The ONLY thing that improves a schools scores is white students...no amount of money will improve a schools average...ONLY white students do that...Asians too but in high school they're not plentiful enough to skew the numbers. Diversifying black schools with whites was the ONLY thing that brought up a schools scores.

Anyway there are some people hints I agree with you about. MLK Blvd usually IS a cesspool. Minority schools usually ARE crappy. Not always as evidenced by the HS my daughter went to; a charter school that emphasized academic performance to such a degree that if you were a screwup you'd be out of there in a heartbeat. The school was at least 80% minority; it was where minority kids whose parents were actually involved in their lives sent them so they wouldn't have to put up with the typical crappy minority school.

Where we differ is you believe minorities CAN'T perform while I believe they typically don't try. I believe they often have a lack of personal responsibility for there current situation and agree with the speeches Bill Cosby used to give on the subject before all his legal troubles.

I believe if you took the time and the trouble you would find that parochial schools outperform most public schools in this nation.

But more importantly De Vos is spot on in her approach . Our educational institutions from Kindergarten to making post graduate schools are failing.

government tuition programs are wasting money and to allow forgiveness for a loan is not a responsible policy. the biggest winner are colleges who because taxpayer money is available continue to raise tuition.

teacher unions do little but cover for incompetent teachers and have been found often to protect pedophiles in their mist.

Tenure at universities allows professors to wander while passing their obligation to teach to their interns

They don't try because they CAN'T succeed. Minorities don't excel intellectually...they weren't designed for it...they were designed to run and jump. The people who went north...HAD to become smarter...creating shelter, clothing, and most importantly...farming...saving grain for the winter and next years crop. When it's -10 outside...it's good to have a "leader" who was smart enough to make a draft free shelter with heat...a leader who ensured enough grain and meat was stored away...a leader who made sure everyone was adequately clothed. A leader who worked FOR the community...not ONLY for themselves.
