My thoughts on modern "Sex Education" is that back then I was talking to my children (so long ago, it seems) about the how to value themselves and their bodies and the future ramifications of their actions, and to question whether the person they're out with has their best interests at heart when the subject of sex comes up.
In school, meanwhile, their teachers, who are their "guides" in this world, also, are basically telling them "we know you're going to have sex no matter what your parents or anyone says because it feels so good, and so here's some condoms and here's how you use them; and the law says you don't have to tell your parents what you do or what we tell you about sex. So now my children have the mixed message that everyone is apparently doing something that their parents say should wait until they're older, and in fact, it is something their teachers expect them to be doing. How many times have our children been told to wait before they could maybe have something they wanted. It's hard to combat all that in the face of rising emotions and hormones and the implicit permission of their school teachers. That's the way I saw it as a parent of pre-teens, then teenagers, so long ago. |
Richie,
Did your kids actually get free condoms from their schools? My daughter went to school in Montgomery County, Maryland, which is a bastion of liberals. The schools talked about sex in high school Health class. It was in their textbooks but just the clinical drawings, of course. No condoms were ever distributed and no demonstrations on how to use them. It had been proposed to the Board of Education but got voted down almost to a person to demonstrate the proper application of a condom by using a banana and a condom. I still remember during my high school days that it was "cool" for guys to carry a condom in their wallet and use real fine sandpaper on the wallet to reveal the outline of the rolled-up condom in your wallet. I wonder if they still do that? |

They are trying rewrite the history books and trying to leave out everything that made the United States what it is. Before they get done, there will be no Civil war. No south. No Confederate flags. No monuments to those who defended the rights of the South. I think that is just wrong. How many kids these days even take History? How many know anything about the US government and how it uses the checks and balances of the three branches to keep the government in check. Do they even know there are three branches? It is obvious that the current president does not know because he has gone out of his way to tear it down. Czars instead of letting the Cabinet do the jobs that they were set up to do. Making laws and rules without any consideration to the Constitution that is supposed to be our road map to ruling the people of the United States. Sex education and cultural diversity are small potatoes as compared to learning what made the United States what is is today. These kids need history and civics lesson. And geography is good to know - especially if they start doing crossword puzzles. |
This is the first generation of children that feels so good about themselves before they even accomplish one thing. It is like winning the Nobel Peace prize for doing absolutely nothing.
