If Congress attempted to repeal the 2nd Amendment you can bet someone will file a lawsuit declaring it unconstitutional and taking it to the Supreme Court

In fact one of the solutions to repeal of Obamacare is to declare the "tax"that Judiciary (supreme court) ruled on a few years ago as being unconstitutional is said to be a manner in shutting down Obamacare.

But its as you said Congress is comprised of spineless, self interests people whose priorities are me first, party second and everyone else what can yo do for me.
