Default Unless Congress Changes It's Ways, We'll Be Greece In Only A Couple Of Years

Keep an eye on what's happening in Greece. The only difference in the way their government ran things and the U.S. is that they're 2-3 years ahead of us in financing their spending with debt. That and it looks like they're beholden to Germany and France, while we'll be doing what the Chinese demand of us. Greece has already virtually stopped any public spending on anything other than debt service and the most fundamental government spending. Read the third from last paragraph in the article below to understand the types of things Germany and France are demanding of them to keep their country afloat.

Say what you wish about Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives, even socialists...unless our Congress and the administration begin to act together to solve the financial problems facing us, we'll be facing the same types of "solutions" as Greece. When the Chinese begin to make demands, they will not be interested in any of the varying idealology, absence of fiscal discipline or any of our economic beliefs that got us to this point. All they will be interested in is getting their loans to us repaid. And we won't like their demands one little bit.

Here's an article from today's Wall Street Journal Online. I'm cutting and pasting it here because, if you haven't registered with the WSJ, you would not be able to navigate to the link and read the article. If you are registered, here's the link to the article...

Default There is no way congress will............

do anything any differently than the have in the past. And there is 100% certainty the current leadership has no interest at least until such time it appears the subject could get them re-elected.
Our only hope......THE ONLY ONE.....is to re-elect NO ONE in 2010 & 2012.

And I do so look forward to being wrong.

Default Breathe

Kahuna don't hold your breath waiting for Democrats and Republicans to work together.

Our only solution is to vote in november for conservatives only.

Bush was not a conservative. Mccain is not a conservative. Crist is not either.

When we vote in november we should sort out who is a conservative whether they be Democrat or Republican and vote for he or she.

Does anyone know any other way to save America. Time is running out.

Good to see you back posting KAHUANA....and a great article.

I see nothing that will turn these 'politicians" in the congress (or the WH) all of a sudden becoming statesman !!

We owe so much to the Chinese it's WE, not THEY who dictate the terms. They are VERY dependent on us keeping our end of the bargain.

I should probably keep my opinions of what the Dalai Lama represents to myself. I do not dislike the man - far from it. However, people have an idealized view of what Tibet was before the Chinese took over. Tibet was not what one would call a democracy. I'll run a quote here from Penn Jillette:

Quote:
Since coming to power, the Chinese government have introduced to Tibet electricity, running water, secular education, and better health standards, so maybe life is better on the ground there. Of course they also have thrown millions in labor camps and prisons, stomped out as much free speech as possible, have death squads run amok throughout the country, and they have that whole f'd up Communist bull****. But if you ask the Dalai Lama, His Holiness will tell you that he must return to power for the good of his people. In this case, "good" may translate into his people living in squalor and his government condoning slavery. Remember, the lesser of two evils… is still evil. And the enemy of my enemy… is not my friend

Jillette also said that Mother Teresa Penn had a sexual kink for death and suffering.

Great source.....have no strong opinions on the Dalai Lama but really think that quoting Penn Jillette sort of destroys your validity !

He did not say 'sexual kink'. He DID, however, quote former nuns in the order and point out that when France passed legislation to force Mother Theresa's organization (and all charities) to open their books, they fled the country. Closed up shop and left. He DID point out that she had an unusual predilaection for taking joy in the act of suffering.

I am at odds with the stated belief that patients should suffer "to bring them close to the suffering Jesus christ did for us". They forbid family visits, among other things. This is very much akin to medieval beliefs that stated you became 'more pure' if you suffered (see items like self-flagellation).

Yet when Mother Theresa needed urgent care, she was flown by private jet to specialist - the exact kind of behavior that people are condemning in the case of the Premier of Newfoundland, indicting Canada's health care system.

So it's ok for Mother Theresa to be a hypocrite but not Newfoundland's Premier?
