Biden's no prize, that's for certain. But while the media may have inflamed the hatchet job (like sharks smelling blood), Palin gave them plenty of ammunition. No matter what arguments there might be over style and "who said what", Palin was a governor of a welfare state flush with oil money, coming from a town with no civic responsibilities (police, fire, etc all provided by the state government). I can think of at least 40 other governors with better credentials, regardless of party or whether or not I agree with them on policy.
Sure, the media loves to "pile on", I'll certainly grant you that one.. But this is a woman who later said "I'm not quitting" IN THE SPEECH WHERE SHE WAS QUITTING. She couldn't even finish her term - and that gave the press more ammunition while they tried to dig up a reason. Having said that, I certainly RESPECT Palin for what she HAS accomplished. Regardless of anything else, that's a lot in a short period of time. But can you imagine her if she had to campaign for the job of VP candidate? Imagine her in a debate against, say, Schwarzenegger. Accents aside, he's had to work harder in HIS job than Palin could have yet DREAMED. Heck, from Massachusetts alone, Mitt Romney and William Weld were far more qualified (yeah, I know, Weld was never a candidate). Palin may yet have a Nixon-like rebirth. Remember, he was the guy who said "They won't have me to kick around anymore" almost a decade before he became President. |
