Wake up call
While we discuss the financial situation in the world, and watch preparations for the incoming President, lets not forget or take our eyes off the rest of the world events...
....On going terrorist attack in India ...."Russian President Dmitry Medvedev agreed to help start a nuclear energy program in Venezuela and said Moscow is willing to participate in a socialist trade bloc in Latin America led by President Hugo Chavez." http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1 ...."Russia will complete Iran's first nuclear power plant in 2009, Itar-Tass news agency quoted the head of Russia's state nuclear corporation as saying on Thursday." http://in.reuters.com/article/worldN...36735220081127 The world is a dangerous place and our country is beginning to be surrounded by terror. We should not live in fear but we certainly better be aware of what is going on around us. I am always reminded of our enemies saying how they will destroy us from within, and how so many say this is not a real war, this war on terror. |

You are RIGHT!!
There is a lot going on in the world that we need to pay attention to....what is our CURRENT President doing in regards to this? After all he still is our Commander in Chief.....right?
Not being sarcastic....this is a real question! What is G. W. doing for us while he is still in command!? |

He's doing what he's been doing, trying to keep us safe. It's not an easy job when the media and congress are undermining him every step of the way.

For some reason I have no faith that it is HIM that is keeping us safe...I think it is all those brave men and women overseas that are keeping us safe!!!
I think he is hiding as much as he can right now!! I KNOW we have not been attacked since 9-11.....BUT I think he hides behind some great military people as much as he can...and we have an amazing military that is keeping them (the enemy) quiet!!! I think that there is more talk about attacks right now because they want to scare President Elect Obama......but I don't see him showing his fear or hiding..... THIS is MY opinion...... JUST MY OPINION!!! wrong or right..... |

Cassie, yes, the military is doing a great job. Bush is the commander in chief of the military. Besides the military there are all kinds of behind the scenes groups working to protect us. CIA etc. I don't think Bush is hiding. The media is only interested in singing Obama's praises. By the way, if a Republican president elect had a sign in front of his podium that said, "office of the president elect", the media would go crazy.

More Than One Thing
Sometime during the course of the presidential campaign, one candidate or the other opined that the President could do more than one thing simultaneously. Given the myriad of serious and worsening problems facing our nation, yes Barack Obama will be very busy attending to all of them.
Obviously, there will have to be priorities. And there may be some problems that he simply won't be able to get to or that we won't be able to afford to fix for awhile. I feel sorry for our young President. His hair will be white before the next election. When you think of the heavy and continuous responsibilities of the job, it makes you wonder why anyone would make such personal sacrifices to do it. One certainly has to respect the commitment of anyone who holds the office and be thankful that we elected someone so obviously committed, smart and talented. |

WOW...talk about taking a thread to discuss world situations and turning it into a bash Bush fest. Keeping us safe is certainly a non partisan issue and the current administration, much to the chagrin of those who wish to bash, has done a great job. WOW....gets old that no matter what you want to discuss you either have to hate Bush or adore Obama !!! |

Your dislike for the sitting president is quite evident. However, the need to take parting shots at random with no substance or basis is strange. What you apparently don't see is the amount of work involved in transitioning administrations. While the national business du jour continues, the continuous briefing of the next guard, and preparing for potential problems that can occur the day before, the day of, and the day after the handover is immense. If the only time anyone thinks a president is doing something is when he's mugging for a camera, then there is little knowledge of what really goes on inside an administration. If "hiding" is taking responsibility for all of the preparatory efforts for transition while doing everything possible to insure what happened when the UK had it's changeover doesn't happen here or is mitigated to the best efforts possible, then Pres. Bush and his staff are "hiding" very well. And as far as the military goes, they are indeed doing their jobs very well. But don't forget the federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, intelligence agencies and homeland security offices working in partnership on counterterrorism. Their work goes unnoticed by the public at large, but their productivity has been made much more effective by the actions, policies, resources and dedication to fusion-of-efforts by this administration. Pres. Bush and his cabinet are not perfect - no administration has ever been. However, a lot of that dislike has been nurtured by a liberal media determined to accent the negative and disregard the positive - and there have been positives. When Mr. Obama's administration takes over, there will be a 6-month press honeymoon during which time whatever errors he and his staff make will be written off as the result of not knowing "how bad" things were. However, if the Obama administration does not kiss the media's collective rumps and give them unfettered access to everything, to include credit for being the intellectual spirit guide for the administration, then the camera will be focused in a different manner to show all of his faults and shortcomings. That's just the way of things.... |
