The phrase Niggaz confusing. It's both a positive name within the community and a negative term for many whites outside of the community. Think of the termed colored. It went from positive to negative.

Wonder who made it confusing...Well you might discover it is a negative term in the community, if you are not black and you yell to a black guy "Whaz up MY Niggas?".

The only example I can think of is from the Sopranos. Christopher calls himself a skinny guinea [sp] and no one raises an eyebrow.

Possibly no one is as sensitive to racial nicknames as a black guy? What if I said; "Don't call me "white", I am not the color of a crayon, I am Caucasian American", does that come across as overly sensitive?

Outside of that, what lyric do you find that demonstrates a lack of self importance?

MY NIGGAS...MY NIGGAS...MY NIGGAS...If you feel a term is derogatory when it comes from others, don't use it to describe yourself.

It all looks like a brotherhood or right of passage to me.

Can't say I understand much of the meaning in some of the lyrics, but "MY NIGGAS will rob...MY NIGGAS give it straight to the bank when we kill" just does not invoke the thoughts of any "right of passage" that I would advise my children to explore.
