I find the app an invaluable tool. I do highly recommend a phone holder. Either one that slips into the cup holder or one that attaches up in your natural “line of sight” through a suction mount or silicone glue into place at edge of windshield. The last is the application I use.
My experience exactly. The only app with golf cart directions well worth the price.

The villages gps you pay for has voice directions. Cost is about 8 bucks and worth it.

Thank you! I’ve just tried Google Maps from my house in Tierra del Sol to Fenney using the bicycle mode—using my iPad rather than a tiny telephone—and the route was perfect, all the cart paths and tunnels and bridges and all. Also, it showed me a camera view, rather than just a map. I have the Villages GPS, but I’ve found it rudimentary—rather like USA Maps 25 years ago—and I haven’t figured out how to get some of the recreation center and pool information to work. Of course, on Google Maps, the bicycle time won’t be the same as the cart time, as few people ride their bicycles at 15 or 20 mph. That’s not a big deal.

Just use Google Maps (the bike setting) which will take you on the paths. Don't pay for a substandard app. Bikes don't go as fast as Carts so you can shave 5 to 10 minutes depending on how far you go. It also stays on constantly and has more updated routes.

When the app is active and giving directions does it stay ON without operator intervention? Is there a setting that will keep the phone on until you get to your destination? I have the same question into the developers, but have not heard back yet, so I thought I would ask other users.
Hi villagetinker, we replied to your email yesterday morning. Not sure why you didn't receive it.

To answer your question.... Yes, it stays on during the whole trip :-)

Why not use The Villages app which is free and has turn by turn instructions for roads and paths? Better yet, get in your cart and explore. Turn off your phone.

I still use my trusty map that shows the cart routes.
Hi Brondrisek,

Just so you know, we do have voice that talks to you.

Your phone has 2 different volume settings.

Make sure your Mute button on your phone is off.

Turn up your Volume as high as possible before opening the app.

Start a route from your home or wherever you are.

After you click “Start” and it shows the route, turn up your volume again.

Now you are good to go :-)

Don't need tobuy the app. If you use Google maps for bicycles, they work perfectly for the golf carts. We have had no problems. Try it.

Hi DecaturFargo,

Thank you for your comments but Google Maps bicycle routes will take you on main roads.

Please be very careful.

billbob, Thank you very much for the kind words.

Just so everyone reading this knows, we are just a couple Villagers like yourselves.

We really try our best and put most of the money we make back in to the app to try our best to keep up with everything as fast as we can.

When we started this app back in 2012, all that was available at that time was "The Developers" paper map.

We were continuously lost trying to hold the map up and drive around and as you can imagine, it was dangerous.

We decided to make a app and help those who had smart phones. It was very hard to do and was very expensive.

Now it is a labor of love and we have made a lot of changes and will continue trying our best.

We know there are other options now and we really appreciate those of you who have it.

If anyone who has it and has any issues, please don't hesitate and email us in the link below.

I use The Villages app and I set my phone timeout longer i.e., 30 mins. or longer. Just remember to set it back to 30 sec. or what you prefer.
