Nova - The Best Water Softener For Your Home
"Hard water" is more common than many people realize. This water contains a high mineral content, including minerals like calcium and magnesium. Hard water is generally safe to consume. In fact, hard water can provide you with essential minerals that may otherwise be missing from your diet. However, hard water is not as safe for some types of plumbing or can leave coatings on appliances and other surfaces.

Over the long-term, hard water can cause buildup in metal pipes, faucets, and other plumbing fixtures. These buildups may eventually require you to clean, repair or replace the affected areas. Additionally, hard water can make soap and detergent less effective. Thankfully, getting the best water softener for your home will stop these problems before they can start.

The Nova Brand Water Softener
Water softeners allow you to eliminate harmful materials in your drinking water. However, they do so while also adding sodium to the water, as the calcium or magnesium ions must be replaced with sodium. As a result, water softeners may pose a small risk to people who are sensitive to sodium or require a low-sodium diet.

Nonetheless, the fact remains that the Nova Softener provides one of the most reliable water softeners on the market. Our water softener can help eliminate minerals in a household of up to 4 people. Here are a few more facts about the Nova brand water softener:
Lower water usage because it regenerates with a built-in metered paddle wheel.
Not the old style weekly timer.
Fiber-reinforced polymer valve body for that is durable non-corrosive, and UV-resistant.
Continuous service flow rate of 21 GPM with a backwash of 17 GPM.
5-cycle control for efficient and reliable water treatment.
Time-tested, hydraulically-balanced piston for service and regeneration.
Optical sensor for precision cycle positioning.
Soft water refill for a cleaner brine tank.
Designed with double backwash for reduced hardness leakage.
Diagnostics for historical valve performance.
Programming stored in memory (cannot be lost due to power outages).
The Hard Facts of Hard and Soft Water
While the Nova brand water softener will soften hard water, the fact remains that there are certain drawbacks to having a water softener. The harder the water is, the more sodium will end up in your drinking water. However, the risk of having too much salt in your water can be mitigated if you combine a Nova water softener with a Nova reverse osmosis filter that will remove the salt.

Chemical Reactions Salt Vs Potassium Chloride

Magnesium stearate or calcium stearate is a waxy solid that you know as soap scum.
With a salt based the stearate clings to the slightly charged surface of your skin. Essentially, soap would rather stick to your skin than get rinsed away in soft water.
With a potassium-based system the potassium in soft water makes it much more favorable for the sodium stearate to give up its sodium-ion so that it can form an insoluble compound and get easily rinses off of your body.

We recommend using Potassium chloride rather than salt to eliminate that "slippery-when wet" feeling after rinsing the soap off. Additionally, you're not adding extra salt to your drinking water which may have an effect on blood pressure or negatively affect salt free diets.

Health Risks Associated With Softened Water

For every grain of mineral removed from hard water, about 8 mg/1 (ppm) of sodium is added. If you're on a diet that restricts or limits sodium intake, you will need to consult your doctor before using any kind of water softener. Alternatively, sodium intake from softened water can be avoided by installing a reverse osmosis filter.

Substituting potassium chloride for sodium chloride may be appropriate for environmental reasons as well. Sodium can actually damage plant tissues. Since the sodium would be replaced by potassium, this diluted wastewater would actually be beneficial to a plant or grass-covered drain field
