Along those lines, for many of us Florida weather is pretty different from whatever state(s) we hail from. One thing that has always surprised me is how incredibly localized (apart from hurricanes) Florida weather is. Up in prairie country a storm front can easily span parts of three states. Down here, several hundred yards seems to be more the norm. More than once we've been at Publix or another business 2-3 miles from our house and experienced incredible downpours, only to arrive at home and find things as dry as a bone.

This is the forecast for this evening on The Weather Channel at 1.20pm:

6 pm - Scattered Thunderstorms - 59%
7 pm - Thunderstorms - 73%
8 pm - Heavy Thunderstorms - 77%
9 pm - Showers - 51%

I await with bated breath to see if we actually get any of the wet stuff.

A similar forecast yesterday yielded about two minutes of light rain.
