relying on power is a must for most, but most understand that things go wrong. Seco was onto the problem from the start and power was restored within an hour or so to most. It's really hard to understand why SECO would concern itself with a few spoiled food items when others need it for oxygen and such.
As for the email it could only come via cell phone as your home computer and wifi devices rely on the router which is powered by...tadah! home electrical.
I am surprised that you're surprised...do you really think all of our infrastructure is problem proof? Not in this life time and yet we live in the easiest time in our history...get a grip eh?
