When directly typing the name of the emoticon you need to begin, and sometimes end, the emoticon name with a colon. I typed the boxing2 text here using the :’s
. Emoticons text names are also case sensitive.
Look carefully at the text format when you first select the emoticon from the list.
For example, boxing2 requires a : at beginning and end. Grin, is a : followed by D.
Once you know the correct emoticon text you can type it directly into your posts without having to locate & select from a list.
It all has to do with the language (javascript) this site uses to substitute the emoticon graphic when the keyword (the emoticon name) is used. The colon(s) is needed to “tell” javascript this is a code word, not a “real” word.
