All addicts have the same access to care if they really want it. AA and similar type meetings are free and help more than any other treatment. All it takes is a phone call. The amount of money you spend is of little significance. You can spend $100 an hour ( or $1000) an hour for one psychiatrist or $1.00 ( typical AA donation) an hour and get the benefit of 100 people who understand the disease better. Your last sentence says it all. It is up to him. We have all seemingly diagnosed this man as needing help yet it is his self diagnosis that is the only one that counts. I have a feeling that once he wakes up surrounded by that reprehensible family, he will again be diagnosed as being "cured".
