First of all it's pretty hard to embarrass yourself down here. We're all in the same boat and you will not find a more understanding group than senior golfers. The only way the game could be more humiliating is if you have to play it in a bathing suit.
I play with a couple of guys regularly. We got paired up with a couple of woman and before we even started one woman said "First of all I'd like to apologize for my game. I am not very good at it and hope you don't laugh." I said, "Wait till you see Jim play, you'll be laughing for the next nine holes." I was only joking but they knew our priorities were to have a good time. That's the way it is with 99% of the people you I run into.

Having said all that it would help out quite a bit if you were prepared. Take a look at this video:
We have a different kind of grass that you don't fix by replacing the divot. You fix it by pouring on some soil and seed mix right over the divot.
