However I would never choose a home location because of a Regional Rec Center.
I think there are way more important considerations -
locations of banks, grocery stores, libraries, big box stores, dog parks, restaurants, golf courses, town squares, etc.

Agree with Bare - location, location, location. We moved here on a whim and had no idea that we would make this place our "forever" home, we were just very fortunate that the home we chose happens to be in an excellent location for our needs, and will be even more convenient as we age.
People are drawn to the new modern homes, and I can understand why because the finishes are just beautiful; however, I know of several homes in older established neighborhoods closer to their lifestyle locations, that have been completely gutted and rebuilt to the home owners personal requirements and they are over the top gorgeous.
If I was asked for my recommendation, it would be to rent here for a few weeks and scout out TV from top to bottom to see what suits your needs the most.
