The roof sheathing and shingles do attenuate the signal somewhat but a sufficiently large attic mounted antenna can pull in over 50 stations from Orlando, your mileage may vary. Keep in mind that what is transmitted today is effectively a digital signal. This means you either get the channel or you don't and if you get the channel the picture is perfect.
