The revolutionary war was over wealth. England had a war with France and expected us bail them out. Even before the war the average American was doing much better than the average European. The few pennies that a slave collected was more that the poorest overthere. The wealthy ruling class figured they could just collect taxes from us without giving us any representation.
Once we were a sovereign nation we could trade with anyone and not let England "wet their beak."
