I found the people of the Twin Cities extremely nice-- Minnesota nice does fit many of them. They are fairly liberal which was fine by me.
On the topic of the thread, I recall that Leisureville by Andrew Blechman had the same kind of quite skewed few of life in the Villages. Probably because sex sells copies of books, newspaper articles, and magazine articles. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/01/bo.../Leland-t.html

Agree found the Twin Cities to be extremely clean, modern and the people fun loving. Always rebuilding to keep surrounding communities updated. Events occurring in downtown everyday. Winter Carnival last for 30 days with its parades. Pro teams for every major sport. tickets to the St Paul Saints games were harder to get than for the MN Twins. I miss Minneapolis except for the taxes which was the principal reason I moved
I have Blechman's book and met the neighbors he referenced in the book and whom he lived with here just before the book came out. I suspect they were not happy with some of his comments.
The STD thing doesn't interest me as I suspect people understand the hyperbole by those reporting such stats .
