I do my own, but moving furniture, climbing the ladder and hoping you get it positioned correctly to reach some of the taller ones (if not, you have to then climb back down and try again) can be a pain in the rear (or hip/leg/arm/head...if you fall ).

At our age (assuming you have a tall enough ladder to start with), having someone replace smoke alarm batteries isn't such a bad idea.

Someone once told me that you can call the fire department and they will do it, but I've never tried it so don't know if it's true.
