I was taught how to shoot by a retired secret service agent who was on the white house security detail. Home invasions are prevalent in Florida.
This was not the typical home invasion. Most home invasions have at least 2-3 perpetrators--their intent is to shock their victim by overwhelming force.

1. I do not walk around in clothing with pockets big enough to carry a gun in, just in case someone rings my doorbell in order to bust in.
2. You don't really know the particulars of the incident, so it's too soon to say whether it was typical or not.
3. Compassion for a defenseless animal victim as well as empathy for the human victim is in order. It is NOT good that s/he had a dog; it is bad that someone beat it to death... if that is even true.
