I was January 5, 1972
I was out for the night with a buddy. I wanted to go to a particular bar but the bar had a $2.00 cover charge. My friend said he didn't have the money for a cover charge so we should go to another bar where beer was 50 cents. So we went. Keep in mind it's January in NY...cold so not much skin is visible. My future wife, Linda, was wearing a short top showing her stomach which made her stand out from the other girls. She's over 5'10" so that got my attention also! (I'm a sucker for tall women with exposed stomachs) When I first noticed her she was with another girl, but the second girl was now with someone on the dance floor. She looked a bit bored so it seemed like a good time to talk. During our conversation she told me that her original plans were to go to a different bar but she was with her cousin and the cousin didn't have the $2.00 cover charge to get in. Maybe we would have met anyway....it was in the cards for us to meet that night.
