In Detroit as well as future and past events, the police are not allowed to act-reason for empty guns. As said above, the mindless mob quickly discovers that the police will not act. In fact in Detroit they were told to pull back. Perhaps, a proper move unless you had your life's work tied to a business. Had you been armed. Had you injured a mindless rioter sadly, you would be found to be wrong.
He she it would get a hotshot public defender and you would be paying your atty $300 an hour to defend you against an endless budget. No one would say it in public but, you can bet the public defender would be well aware of it.
