My brother and I grew up with a couple of left handed brothers. One became an oral surgeon, the other a very successful lawyer.
When I was a patent attorney at Los Alamos National Laboratory I was amazed at how many of the inventive scientists were left handed. I once heard left handedness and high intelligence correlate for genetic reasons.
One of my grandmothers was ambidextrous as am I, doing some things as a lefty, some as a righty.
Probably left handedness is discouraged in some cultures so children are trained to do things such as write as if they were right handed.
