I am left handed and do try to sit on the end as you suggested. However, one thing I noticed is that when I sit with a right handed person on my left (happens a lot), it seems that I am more accommodating with space sharing then they are with me. I presume this is because I sit next to righties more often than they sit next to lefties.
Going back to junior high school, I always sat at a right handed desk as they did not have many left handed desks. When I got to high school, one of my teachers noticed I was left handed and switched desks for me. I was "messed up" for a while as it was unusual to me........
