In our west facing designer home we had a 2 ton Mitsubishi mini split installed (in a 800 sf garage). It removes the humidity and keeps it comfortable even on the lowest fan setting. Only takes minutes to cool down the 3 car area. Not cheap - little over $5K, but I'd do it again. Its worth it to me.
Before installing the unit, we had Romac install their garage door insulation kit, had the door windows tinted and would keep the pull down attic door propped open with the window open - it helped some.
Just had our lanai enclosed and had the same mini split unit installed there too.
