You got lucky. The human factor is involved and the local postal employees that handled your mail figured it out. Next time the person that sees that letter may not figure it out and back to the sender it will go. You are just creating more work because the automated system cannot possibly associate that box number with you, those boxes are made for postal lobbies but have been modified to accommodate The Villages delivery system. I can guarantee you there are duplicate numbers throughout The Villages so the automated equipment could not possibly say Box XXXX belongs to John Doe in Hadley. Jane Doe in Charlotte could have the same box number. Just use your street address or go rent a box.
