True - you have to obtain a title for your car where the car is located.

However, I am concerned that DMV took your old title and just gave you an application for a Florida one - I believe they should have completed the application with you at that time and submitted it (like they did with our car transfer last January).

Also, titles usually have an attached notice of transfer to the original state that needs to be sent in to that state (CT) notifying them that the title has been transferred to the new state (FL). If you don't tell CT that you now have a FL title, CT will continue to send you a annual license renewal and charge you late fees when you don't pay it.
