Of course it can. If it couldn't see what the temp is in your house how could it act as a thermostat ? That goes without saying (wait! I said it!

). What NEST can't do for some silly reason according to Nest/Google is a FIXED HOLD on a chosen temperature until you want to end the hold or even indefinitely. You have to set it as multiple small programs. Nest's (now Google's) excuse for that is that it is a "smart" thermostat and why would you want it not to be smart! Evidently many people over the years want it to be dumb at certain times with the push of a button.
