Default CDC Shielding Approach and Covid 19

The CDC published a "shielding approach to prevent COVID-19 Infections in humanitarian settings" in 2019, updating it in July 2020. In short, the "shielding approach" is a separation of Covid high risk individuals from low risk individuals. Here is a link to the document, note that it is not a short read.

Keep in mind the low mortality rate of Covid-we are not talking about something as virulent as Ebola or other hemorrhagic viruses/fevers which might warrant the full shielding approach.

Although the document is pointed towards "humanitarian settings" (think 3rd world, refugee camps, etc), the beginning framework has already been used in some areas of the US. Examples include suggested isolation in the home, keeping visitors out of nursing homes, cancellation of community celebrations (religious holidays), and bereavement (funerals). Given all of the lockdown talk and fears of case spikes, more levels of this "shielding approach" could be implemented in the US. Remember that forced relocation in the US has happened in the past, so don't be too quick to dismiss the document. After all, the document has been updated, not retracted.
